If you wanted a miata and had $10k...

I agree with you quite a bit but this isn't simple for everyone. I'm a college student and I also have a job, so I need transportation. It cant sit half taken apart in my driveway all the time. On top of that i'll probably be living on campus next semester so I wont have a place to work on it, or even a place to keep the tools. Right now, a hobby like that isn't practical. I have more $$ than I have time, so for me it'd be better to get something prebuilt.
I would like to get another miata as a track car in the future that I'd like to build up myself. Of course that'll be by the time i have enough $$ for a house, DD, miata, trailer, and a truck to tow it with. So for now, a turbo DD miata thats already been built up sounds like the best bet.
So if anyone here is thinkin about selling one, send me a PM (yeah i' watching the for sale section too)
and like i asked before, is there anywhere i can post an intro?

If you are going into school and have $10K I wouldn't spend it all on a car. I'm about $90K in debt from school and I wish I had waited to spend $7K on my miata and just kept the cavalier I hated another few years. Get something cheap and reliable and save your dough for more important ****. I always ignored people who told me about "delayed gratification", but my gratification is going to take another 25 years to come now because of my ungodly high student loan payments.
My parents purchased a plan from the "Florida Pre-paid Program" when I was an infant. They spent about $15k but it paid for my college tuition and fees, PLUS two years of dormitory. So that's all taken care of; all I have to worry about is books, and a place to live for the last two years. Of course on top of this I'm earning the Bright Futures Scholarship from FL, which will be paying 75-100% of my tuition, so I'll be getting a pretty nice check back from the prepaid plan every semester (About $1400 every 6 months). On top of all this, I also have a college fund set aside with 14 grand in it.
I also plan to work fulltime through college, because even though I'm a senior in high school I already have 30+ college credits not even including the 17 credits I'll be earning this semester - so that means when I'm an actual college student I'll be taking less classes per semester b/c I'm already 3+ semesters ahead.
moral of the story: I think I'm safe to spend that OTHER $10k of mine on a car. I appreciate it though, it's cool to see someone looking out for the best interest of others. Kids can be stupid
I don't have 12k i have 10, but gimmie some pics and info on it and maybe we can talk?
hopefully thats the longest post i ever make on this site. hahaha

Buy the nicest NA you can find. Be prepared to spend $6k+. Do the basic stuff, suspension, wheels and tires, brakes, etc. Get the car well-sorted, get out of college, and then focus on the turbo. I have just over $10k in my car and I haven't even started in on my turbo mods yet.

That sound like a good starting point? He's asking $6.5k. I was gonna offer him less, with the hope to add an FMIC and do some suspension work, and get a few interior accessories and new wheels etc.

It looks like my miata fetish is going to end up waiting until after college.
I think I just grabbed a great deal on a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0 Coupe.
That's the exact car, same specs/colors/wheels.
I think I'm gonna stick around this website because my new fetish for miatas is not going away anytime soon. I plan on getting one probably a while after college (who knows how my financial status will be). I'll set it up as a track car, and i'll definitely do a turbo.
At the rate I'm at now, I should graduate college in 5 more semesters (not including this year I'm still a high school student)

Mind if I ask what you're going to be studying in college? Even coming in with a binch of credit hours, it'll be tough to shorten your degree by that much. Credit hours are only one part of the puzzle in seeking a degree...lots of majors have a bunch of required classes that will take more than 4 semesters to complete. Anything in a STEM field will certainly fall into this. It's great to come in with a bunch of credit, but it just isn't the same.

private party = no taxes
where i live, it costs $18 to register a car, plus $20 for a new tag. don't know where you live because you didn't fill out your profile.
Don't know if you saw the 50k mile blue 90 on FM's website? He's asking $8k, and it's been for sale for a long time. Good looking car, but probably not going anywhere in January.... (good time to make him the offer he can't refuse)

Be careful with dual enrollment. I was looking into it when I was in high school, but I learned that many universities won't give credit for duel enrollment. The issue to them is that, if you are receiving high school credit, then you can't get college credit for it. They essentially have to take AP credit, so I stuck with those.
Not all colleges feel that way, but the ones I wanted to go to did, so I decided not to dual enroll. Call the schools you are thinking about attending and ask them specifically if they give credit for duel enrollment classes in which you are receiving high school credit. Good luck
