What's your opinion on their pricing based on the machine work required?

Those parts really reduce the work for the less experienced. One could practically buy the parts, cut and drill, then take it to a welder for assembly.

 

Ross is pretty popular with the VW fab guys. Flipside will have an intake manifold for the 1.6 Miata soon.

I think I'm just going to lop off my OE manifold right where the runners turn up and then put a box on the end. I guess a 4x4 box would be ideal- given that's what they're "pushing".

I have thought about making a Intake mani for the miata to sell. I might get one, one of these days. I have been to that ross site, and I think I have another one bookmarked. Maybe if someone has interest in one being made, I will make one.

As a 1.6 owner I'd say it would make a lot more sense to make a 1.8 mani. Hardly anyone with a 1.6 would keep it if going for power that required a new intake manifold. Strange.

 

I think if you wanted to make your own fancy intake then the prices are pretty good. Of course you have to buy at least 2 feet of the ~$40/foot tubing. I guess you may be able to get the machined pieces cheaper if you went to a job shop and had them made yourself, but you'd have to draw them up, etc. Probably not worth your effort.

Or you buy one of each piece and send them to china and get them done real cheap.

 

I have a spare 1.8 manifold in my basement with plans to do the same eventually. That way I don't have to find a flange for the head.

I thought about making a plastic manifold too, just for laughs.

 

too much NAWSS and you'll blow the JB-Welds on your manifold.

 

yeah, I'd definitely stick to copper plumbing pipes when using JB Weld.

Character...lol who cares about caracter when there are so many more options for the 1.8l and you can make so much more power. People say the 1.8L seems to drop off after 5500...well get a BEGI intake manifold and you will build power all the way to redline.

 

The Flipside manny will be $400 or less. The nice thing is he can taylor them to your setup. Vacuum ports where you want or maybe just include a vacuum manny. The plenum is larger but it still utilizes the factory lower.
