I got a 78K mile 1.8 out of a '97 M edition and the 5 speed tranny today at the pull-a-part for just under $200. I wish the rear end had still been in it and I would have got that too, but it had already been scavanged. My goal was to sell the rear end to fund the cost of the motor and pocket some money too, but oh well still a good deal. Since the PPF was already disconnected, we had the motor and tranny out in about 1 hour. So, it looks like if/when I pop the 1.6, I have a nice 1.8 to drop in and a spare tranny to boot!
WOW and I thought I got a deal with the $150 96 motor. Good job man. I'm assuming since you pulled it yourself, it's complete with starter, alternator, cam cover and everything.

It will eventually go in the turbo car. The original 1.6 has 232K on it now and is probably on borrowed time anyways. My R package that I race in ES only has 47K miles on it and is very strong, so no need for a new motor.
nicely done! (and a LOT of work... in a dirty yard)
i scored a set of NGK wires for $2 and the A/C relay for $4 last week from a CHERRY laguna blue auto 1.8. this is.. by far, my fave color of any NA.
