When I install knocksense, can I use hardware in the spot from the stock knocksensor, or do I need to get a bolt or some shit with a setup like what Fm sales?

I'm actually trying to figure out if the KS will work with the stock '99 knock sensor before i order it. I think it will. Reverant built his own knock sense style unit and uses the stock '01 sensor.

I just want to now if the knocksense sensor will bolt where the stock one goes, or if I need to go buy a bolt, nuts...or what the fuck ever. I'm tired of dicking around like a ------ with this shit, and I'm about to put my 3-day weekend to work with Ms, knocksense, swaybars, and awesomeness.

In reality, all you need is a stud that matches the thread of a motor mount bolt and 2 nuts.

Anyone know what the stock '99 sensor is? Is it a bosch or what? Everyone I call short of partsgroup.com told me they had no idea what the hell it was. It doesn't look or feel like the bosch unit when i reach under my mani blindly but i could be wrong.

If I were to hazzard a guess, I'd say it's a denso unit. I've never seen the NB KS in person, only pictures on the interweb. It looks nothing like the bosch sensor I know and love.

I paid something like $25 for my bosch sensor--I've seen them for a little less (used), but I paid a little premium for the 1 stop shop deal. And Boris ended up throwing in the LED kit for me. :bigtu:

I need to talk to reverant. Maybe he can spec the stock sensor for me to know if it will work with the Knocksense. I'd love to just wire the knock sense up in the cab to the stock harness. Man that would be nice.
Might end up adding the bosch unit though.

What kind of signal would the oem 99 knock sensor send?

You think I could possibly log the signal via the EMB?

They all want $600 to tune the car. One estimated $1800 and would need the car for 2 days...lol.

just took a look at my FM KS mount. It's 2.5" top to bottom. However, something I didn't realize before: the motor mount bolt has a larger circumference (1 cm) than the knock sensor's bolt hole (.6 cm). Since you can't hog out the knock sensor itself, probably the best thing to do is weld a stud that fits through the knock sensor's mounting hole to the top of an original motor mount bolt, and then capture the sensor to it with a nut.

You've got a wideband, road tune it yourself. Work on drivability while you are NA. I wouldn't waste the $$$ on the dynoe before you install the turbo.

motor mount bolt is m10x1.5 IIRC, bosch sensor needs a m8 (or m6 cant remember) size stud however.

hmm i could make a few. How long is the stock bolt? Grade 8 should be enough. The stud would probably be too long to use a deep socket on the bolt but you could wrench it in the alright i think. I've never changed motormounts so I don't know off hand.

I don't really want to do an hour of track time on a motor out of tune.

I would just leave the stock ECU in until I had the turbo in then. What does it take, 10 minutes to install the MS including carpet and plate removal. You can still do the other wiring in the meantime though and just run it into the cab.

You could install the IAT sensor in your IC plumbing, install the knock sensor, mount the intercooler, wideband, and any other gauges you might have. Crap like that.

The motor, rad, and subframes still have to come out for swapping and powder.

if enough people are interested I can get double sided studs made which will have the proper length/thread for the engine mount with a hex head in the middle, and the proper length and thread pitch for the bosch unit on the other side... so all you'd need is this stud and a nut to install.

Price would probably be around $15-20 ea though.
