How do you guys like the 91's? I'm considering a purchase of one.

One of the biggest issues with 91's will be some of them will still have the short nose crank. Which can, depending on who does the timing belt can cause issue. It's all explained well in the FAQs on m.net.

Also.... depends what you want to do. If you are planning on doing FI, there are more choices available for 1.8's.... so those started in 94. Also there's the 1.6 brakes/diff vs the larger 1.8 brakes, and the bigger 7" ring gear in the diff.....

All things to consider....

What I do like about the 91's is the weight. It's nice and low without having to tear out the nice things to have in the south.

I do know it's a long nose crank.

I am also considering building it for SPEC Miata. I'm just not sure yet. I'm an FI addict for 4-bangers.

early 90 cars are lightest, thats good enough for me. shortnose is not a problem if the belt job is done right.

well, it depends on what you want to do with the car. Engine management just became a breeze...and bad *** thanks to the MSpnp. However, you have a glass rear end, which you can swap in for less than the price differential of a 1.8.

Some people will swear that the short nose is going to fail, while others say they've seen the long nose fail more...the debate can go on and on forever, I love my 91. But if I could do it again I would probably get a 94+ for the 1.8 and diff, but I also plan to go turbo too, so it all depends on what you want it for
