Oh bloody hell. I've read this thread three times since it originated and couldn't remember any reference to that.

I did a search for "tires" and "wheel" with no results. Am I double stuffed with retarded? :(

Yeah, I read that thread too. There's some 245 width street tires suggested and shot down, just at the very end of the thread there.

There's talk of mad tyte stretching of the tires and omg deep dish rimz as well as uber hoosiers, but no real tech for street tires with more grip than 225/45/15 RS3's.

triple88a 11-21-2009 02:36 AM

i assume it doesn't show them since there's begillion results...

Dayum! These are the molded copies?

Reverend Greg 11-21-2009 09:01 AM

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much are the flares going to be?

Flares will be $400 and the hoods will be $225. The price on the hoods will stay there until the end of January and then I may raise it to $275 so I am making something off of these. I am not hard set on that, but it may happen. Depends on how slow business is and how much I need to make money vs. just keeping my guys busy.

245's were not shot down....it was recommended to not run a 245/50 since it would have a monsterous sidewall, but rather run a 245/35 or 245/45.....you can pretty much stuff whatever you'd like under these flares depending on the offset of your wheels, the ride height of your suspension, and your application. I myself plan on running the Toyo T1R 245/35/R16 on the Spinwerks Series 82 16x9.5" 0et wheels. That will give me the same look fitmentwise as Chris Lee's notorious black Tuckin99 flared miata and that is PLENTY of meat under the car. You could really put the 265 tire to use?? Also, who would buy these flares without planning to hack up the existing body work....thats kinda the point of the flares right??

The 245/35/16 T1R's I know about. I really doubt they have more grip than 225/45/15 RS3's though.

I suppose what I really should be asking is how much vertical clearance one could gain if one hacks up the old fender... vertical clearance would be what I'm concerned about. Fitting the 245/45/16's without jacking the car up. I don't doubt they add the 20mm of horizonatal clearance.

245/45/R16 is 22mm larger in diameter than the 225/45/R15. The 245/35/R16 is virtually the same rolling diameter.....dont think you'll have to do any "jacking" :giggle:..shit you could probably cut out 2" worth of material under these flares if you wanted to...

O.o

I prefer the one on Miata.net, personally. I'd already calculated the 245/45/16's to 24.7 in height. 2" higher than the stock tires.

But this has nothing to do with how much height can be freed up by the flares... which was the question.

EDIT: I see your ninja editing skills there. Before all you said is that 245/45/16 tires are taller than 225/45/15's by 22 mm, which is incorrect. Just the extra inch of wheel is 25.4, the wheel and tire additional height is 43.4mm. :P Probably two inches is a good start... depending on where that probably ends up, one could get from 245's to 285's... 245/45/16 and 285/30/18 are the same height after all. (if the flares add enough horizontal clearance, which I have no idea)

Lets get some more pictures of the replica flares!
