Finishing up my wife's 91BRG refurbish. The shift **** was crusty, the finish was chipped and the rubber band around the **** was smooshy and would leave black marks all over your hand.

So, I figured I would strip it and refinish it. None of the solvents that I had would touch the finish. I couldn't do anything with the rubber band to save it. The Nardi logo was kind of hosed up anyway. I'm sure the purists would say to just leave it alone and keep it original, but it looked like crap.

So, I sanded the whole thing, including, GASP!, the logo. I couldn't figure out what to do with the 1/8" deep groove where the rubber band was. Finally, it occurred to me. I'm sure the MT folks will figure it out! I don't think it came out too bad. It needs another coat or two of polyurethane.

 

That color... JB weld?

 

Ding! Ding! JB Weld FTW! Actually, I wrapped it with a layer of wire first to suck up most of the groove and then layed on a coat.

 

I am thoroughly disgusted. I don't even know what to say right now. j/k looks good.

 

One offs FTW! Looks great....

i had that shift **** on my miata when i got it, first mod was a voodoo ****, then threw it in the trash, wish i would have sold it

 

Careful, there are those out there that might take that idea and run with it.

Last thing we need as Miata drivers is a bunch of dudes modding sex toys into shift *****.

i had one on my brg and it was fucked. I went to a auto parts swap meet, my luck, some guy has one brand new in the bag witnh a bunch of rx8 *****. 5 dollars each. YES PLEASE! I boyught em all
