Default Miata at junk yard

I found a miata at a junk yard its a 1996 that someone had turbo'd and it had a engine fire. I was thinking of getting the rear end out of it they quoted me $450 but I really want a torsen and im not sure if it has one. I called mazda twice and talked to 2 different people and niether told me for sure a lady said she thought it did and a man thought it didn't It has a lot of options leather, power windows, cruise control, ect. What do yall think? If its a open and im stuck with it is that a ok price for a open. Also does any one need a turbo mani and a downpipe for a garrett turbo

Should have a torsen then if I recall correctly, unless of course the leather interior was swapped in by whoever boosted it. I never had a problem with mazda not being ableto give me accurate info with the VIN.

Or the Torsen was swapped out by the previous owner...

We encountered one of those. Looked up the VIN of a friends wrecked 1.6 car and it sold with LSD, cracked the case open (which had junk yard markings) to find it was open.

That's how I got screwed, I bought it of a junk yard thinking it was a torsen but nope it wasn't. I was so pissed so make sure you check before you buy so you don't get screwed like me.

It looked like the garrett 2554 on it. I talked to another person at mazda and he said its not a torsen.

A manual transmission '96 which shipped with leather, cruise, and power windows should have come with a torsen.

IMO, that's a fair price for an open diff and an outstanding price for a Torsen. Seems like a safe bet to me.

I called Mazda w/ my VIN. They said I didn't have an LSD. I swore it did b/c I had a leather interior. Sure enough, I did.

Found out after I bought a good LSD.

I've called Mazda several times and you will get conflicting answers based on who you talk with. The way they explained it to me the info is in different places depending on whether the Torsen was a stand alone option, part of a package, etc. So they have to check multiple places to be sure if it is or isn't and it's easy to miss. The best way to know what the car came with is to just print out the one page feature table and take it with you and compare features to see if it had a Torsen or not (although it may have been removed).

I think I am going to go down tomorrow and see if they will pull a axle and let me look in it. That seems to be the only way to find out. Can you pull either axle or do you have to pull one or the other? Wasn't sure sure if I have to pull the drivers or passenger side. Thanks
