Default Miata will not run right!

Hello everyone. Sorry if this is in the wrong section. This is my first post and wasn’t sure. So last Summer my Miata overheated due to a snapped accessory belt. (1990 Miata) I left it alone for a loooong time (6-7 months) because I didn’t have time to work on it. Long story short. I bought a new head got the valves checked, decked everything checked out on the head. Installed everything correctly to my knowledge, and now the car won’t start. My timing should be spot on, I am getting spark, compression is great, and the fuel pump is working fine. Also one of my spark plugs was wet from gas. But it just won’t start it just cranks. Occasionally it will sputter while I’m cranking it for like 1 second. The car also will run on ether. I’ve done a lot of research on this trying to figure it out with no luck.

Also, the car ran ok to my knowledge after the belt snapped. I fixed it and drove about 25 minutes with no real issues.

your cam timing is wrong.

It won't run right? So it runs left! You still have a future in NASCAR!

On a more serious note, as mentioned your cam timing would be the first thing to check. I'd also confirm Top Dead Center and make sure your crank pulley hasn't separated and moved the timing marks.

I’ve done my timing twice now. And the second time I’m pretty sure was near perfect. I will try it again though. Any other suggestions?

Post pics of all three timing marks. Mostly people get a cam off by a tooth, or line up the wrong cam mark.

check to see if your cam angle sensor isn't falling out.
