Default Motor dies doing 80 mph for no reason. Updated on page 2

So I am sitting on the side of the road waitting to tow the car back home

I was driving out of boost just cruising at 80 ish when the car bucks real quick and the tach bouncses for a second. I look back see a small blackish cloud of smoke and then the car dies. Got to the side of the road. Try to start her again and I get nothing. Motor turns but no start. Finally get a small start and try to give it throttle and she dies again. Oh all the stock gauges were reading fine. No wideband in the car so no help there.

If any one has any idea of what to look for that be help

Oh car is a 91 with a 99 short block and 94 head and fm3 diy turbo kit

What have you checked so far? An engine only needs air/fuel/spark to run... Start narrowing it down.

Why do people invest thousands in building a car and can't spend up to $200 for a wideband?

That is cause I am waiting on my damn refund so I can get a wideband and a Megasquirt. It is the next thing I buy for the car.

I still have 3/4 of a tank of gas. The belt looks great, still has tension.

Small up date. I got the car to idle once but as soon as I gave it gas the motor died.

The car is finally home so after i eat some I am going to hunt down everything.

I'll do some checking of everything.

you I never though of that. I am running a FMU with a 10:1 or 12:1 disk(can't remember) so I may have taxed the stock fuel pump.

I had similar issues when my coil pack was on its way out.

ah, FMU could be issue too. Either way, I'd think it'd be fuel delivery. If you could get it to start and idle, even just once, your spark and all electronics should be fine. If you hit the gas and it died, that indicates either a fuel problem or MAF is broken. You could unplug your coils and see if the plugs are wet after cranking. If they are, fuel may be ok and your ECU just doesn't know how much to put in.

coilpack, clogged cat, fuelpump run the list. Esp if your timing belt looks intact.

Try jumping F/P with GND in the diagnosis panel.

If you hear a hummmmmm then the fuel pump is working.

I just got out a similar problem (similar starting symptoms) and it turned out to be fuel pump related.

ok yea I planned after dinner to check for any codes. Also going to look for spark.

I try jumping the F/P and GND to check the pump.

Also yea no cat to have cogged and the exhaust is basically just a mild pipe right after the downpipe. Nothing really thing lol

CAS - when starting you should see an rpm signal in megatune. no reading, no cas. you will get no spark and no fuel

Coilpack - obviously no spark. spark plugs will be wet with fuel

Fuel pump - you will still have spark but no fuel.

I just asked Milton and he bets $5 it's your CAS. Remember, no spark, no fuel = CAS.

I had a issue just like this awhile back. Car would start and idle but as soon as I touched the throttle it died. I was thinking it was one of my fuel pump relays.

I swapped in my MSPNP and removed the AFM. Problem was gone after that. So I figured it was my AFM that **** itself.

Goodluck!

Well I just cleared the codes and try to start the car and still nothing.

I am starting to wonder if maybe the wiring wiggled lose. Since everyone on M.net was saying either the CAS is bad or wiring. I am wondering if the wiring from when I extended the CAS has wiggled lose.

Either way it is getting dark and being in an apartment complex makes it kinda hard to work on the car after house. So tomorrow after work, i am going to check my spark and tract my wiring if not just redo all of it.
