Ben, you're gonna love the E-codes. This was only 3 feet from the wall though because it's on jack stands right now. I can't wait to see what these look like with HID lights in them.

drove to work in AM rush hour and had no oncoming motorists flash at me.
all-in-all, it's very good. and with some proper e-codes (I'll have em today), I'll even be able to raise them up a little.

I'm not expecting to get the results with this h4 conversion compared to a proper set of HID projectors, but even with these ching chong housings it's so much better than stock was. and it does not blind oncoming traffic like the nay sayers predicted.

Nice work, im going to give this a shot. I could definitely use some more light, but im going to keep searching for some decent 7" projectors see what i come up with.

I'll get the HIDs in the E-codes on Sunday maybe. After seeing the pics from the H1 Hella/HID set up, I think they'll do pretty well. Really, as it is now with ching chong housings, compared to stock it's like "night and day".

How did he mount the projector? I am thinking of buying clear ebay 7" lights and retrofitting a projector setup

 

My birthday is in just under 2 weeks (turning the big 2-0), hopefully I'll get the e-codes and HID's I asked for.

 

OKay well I took yu guys advice and bought the 7 inch round glass headlights off ebay 2 days ago and the 80 dollar HID kit so I will post pics when it all comes in to show you guys how it looks.

 

For those who are all excited saying that they're gonna get the e-codes and throw HIDs in them. Don't buy the HIDs yet. Get the e-codes and see how you like them with the lights they come with. They are greatly better than stock and you may be satisfied with just the e-codes. I'd say the difference between the e-codes and stock is "night and day".

 

Has anyone tried the Hella Vision Plus (DOT) lenses with a HID conversion? I read a post from some forum that they work well together. No glare and adjustable. Also the Vision Plus lenses are almost half the price of the E Codes.

Sounds like a bad idea. DOT lenses have hot spots rather than a cutoff line like E-codes.

 

I was impressed how good the E-codes were with a +50% lamp.

 

Got the Hella E-codes from Bill @ miataroadster.com.
Tried them with halogen bulbs first. They did a much better job than stock sealed beams, but failed to impress me vs ching chong + HID. So I put the HIDs in the E-codes. The E-codes sit further forward from the headlight buckets, so I had to move the HID ballasts. I also had to completely re-aim the E-codes. And they can indeed be aimed in a manner that is polite to other traffic.
The cut-offs are pretty damn amazing with the E's & HIDs. Looks very much like a real projector. The patterns are better, with even light distribution. No hot spots or odd artifacts in the lit area. Also the bulb shields are much more securely mounted in the Hellas compared to ching chong, so the lit area doesn't shake or bounce around like it would before.

I will say that the best value is the cheap ebay housings with the HID, so if you want to get in and out as inexpensively as possible, it's a fine option. If you can scratch up the extra $45, get the E-codes.
