Default NA/NB subframe

are NA/NB front subframes interchangeable? this would make my search much easier if they were, does anyone know?

Yes, it bolts right in. We've done it.

The control arms are the same, other than the sway bar mounting brackets on the lower arms. The purpose of this was to change the caster.

The front upright did not change other than the steering arm moving up by 7mm for bump steer reasons. If you are installing the NB front subframe, you will have to go to the NB steering rack (incompatible mounting points and the NB is a superior setup with one mount cast into the rack) and I'd recommend going to the NB uprights if you want the geometry intended by Mazda.
Stolen from Keith from FM.

NB front subframes also have the suspension pickup points in slightly different locations making the suspension geometry with an NB front subframe (and required steering rack with it) more desirable than that of an NA front subframe.
