NB Power Steering Suction Hose no longer available

Towards the end of my MSM build thread, I recount how I had a catastrophic power steering failure on track. I've removed what I believe to be the offending leaking hose, part number NC10-32-688, pictured below:

Hose in question is coloured orange and it connects the pump to the reservoir

The trouble is, the part is no longer manufactured by Mazda and there is zero inventory in North America. I haven't had much success finding an aftermarket replacement either. Anyone know of a suitable alternative or perhaps have a spare off a wreck? My next track day is coming up and I'm dead in the water until I can get this figured out.

Thanks.

Mazda motorsports lets me get through checkout with one in the cart. Maybe they have some.

I tore mine like a decade ago and just got a straight piece of hose and clamped it on. It works even with the kink, since 2007.

this would be cool to compression sleeve/ AN adapt to braided though...

You sure do love compression sleeves lol

I used this one for my repositioned reservoir, but it should work in the stock location if you cut one of the sides short.

it's a heater hose for a Acura Integra.

^Amazing!!!

Good idea - thanks. I'll look for one locally here and see what I can do with it. Any issues with a heater hose carrying ATF? I guess a rubber hose is a rubber hose and there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

$11 at local distributor. Fingers crossed that it works out. Thanks again.

DeerHunter 06-07-2017 07:30 PM

Grrrr! Distributor recommended against the coolant hose as it's not rated for oil. Found a length of oil-rated 5/8" ID hose at a local hose supplier and hooked it up. After pressure-washing the engine bay to make everything clean, it turns out it wasn't the hose at all but the high-pressure fitting at the top of the pump. Even after tightening, it still sprays fluid out whenever the wheel is turned. Bad pump? Bad fitting? Would replacing the crush washer perhaps do the trick? I'm disheartened.

Hose #6 is the one that breaks. The hardline cracks. It's a pretty well known issue in auto-x cars.

DeerHunter 06-07-2017 11:38 PM

Is this the one you mean? (highlighted in red):

Yup.

DeerHunter 06-08-2017 10:05 PM

Great. Local dealer will have one in by tomorrow afternoon. I was also able to source a suction hose from Treasure Coast, so hopefully I'll have things back in a running state fairly soon. Thanks all.

Leafy 06-08-2017 10:25 PM

If I was you I'd be working on a long term solution for that pressure line. It's going to break again.

DeerHunter 06-08-2017 11:16 PM

Any suggestions?

JamieH 06-09-2017 06:08 AM

I see you've already sourced the part, but for future reference, the NA hose should work on the NB. Mazda Part # NA02-32-684B

The NA hose is currently still available. And after a bit of trimming, it should fit the NB.

DeerHunter 06-09-2017 11:45 AM

Good to know - thanks. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that particular hose again.

Make one with an fittings. Iirc the one to the pump is hard to find, and I think I machined a custom one for someone while in college once.

DeerHunter 06-09-2017 01:29 PM

Sounds like an opportunity for the aftermarket. Hint, hint.

DeerHunter 06-12-2017 01:58 AM

New hard line went in today. Unlike most repairs, this was actually easier than anticipated. Drop the undertray and the bottom compression connector was within easy reach. Replacement hard line had all-new brackets and was a breeze to install.

I'm still not sure why the old one failed. The upper bracket locks the hard portion of the line completely in place. It cannot move relative to the engine, so engine torquing shouldn't be able to fatigue it. Puzzled...

Anyway, thanks to everyone who chimed in. I'm back in business for the next track day.
