I'm getting local quotes from $2500-3500 to remove the leather covers, add some bolstering, and recover in tan cloth.

Why the hell is this so expensive. It looks like there are no quality recover kits available. Any other options??

You answered your own question. There aren't any kits available, so they don't have a pattern and need to measure and cut everything as a custom job. How many hours of labor did they quote you?

 

There are plenty of kits available. I did a pair of NB seats a few years ago in an afternoon. I believe this is what I used.
No idea on cloth options but you can ask them.

 

I work in a shop that does seat upholstery. Only leather or vinyl is available to buy. Cloth needs to be cut and sewn, as a one off custom. Lots of hours.
