Default Need advice about what to do

I put this post in my dyno thread, but I need responses by Sat.

Well, it was sort of a sad day today. Nothing broke so that's why I say sort of. I just came back from vacation and decided to really drive my car a see how it felt. I noticed that my boost gauge was going to 17 psi. I'm only making 212 hp at 17 psi ???? That seems kinda shitty. It seems to spool ok, so I can't imagine that the cat is clogged. The diaphragm in the wastegate isn't holding at max boost, but it still manages to get to 17 psi on gauge.

Any ideas on what could be wrong, or is this just the turbo that I'm running?

I've read here that the stock internals are less dependent on boost than hp numbers when it comes to breaking things. I'm tracking my car this Sat. Should I tone down the boost, or run it the way it is.

Come on hustler, 212hp at 17psi

Sounds like tuning issues to me but it's pretty hard to say what's causing your lack of HP. I'd be down with helping you figure it out one evening this week if you want...never messed with link before but I a close by and an extra set of hands never hurt (plus it's been about 7 months since I've layed eyes on my Miata unfortunately)

a good thing to know is the size of the turbo

10 psi on a gt2554 10 psi on gt3071

Also what size exhaust are you running?

Friday evening might work for me. My inlaws are in town and I'm not sure if they are leaving Friday morning or Sat. I should probably do a compression check just to make sure that it's not something obvious. Maybe I have a cylinder that's down. Any suggestions?

I believe the turbo is a non ball bearing 2560 since it's an old FM2 kit

If you are cranking 17psi on a 2560 you can blow your engine. I know one guy that did.

Fail

Yeah man what pressure is your WG setup for initialy?
Have you confirmed your gauge is correct (they can get out of whack)?
Is your clutch sliping?
Is your timming stupid low?
Are your AIT's stupid high?
Are you stupid rich on fuel?

All this **** will cause the above. Also a weak spark could contribute. get back to us with some more info and we will be able to help you more.

I'm starting to feel a little better now. I called FM and sent them a pic, which I'll include shortly in this post. Brandon said it looks like a modified Tec turbo (T25) It is supposed to be good for 200 rwhp and peak efficiency is around 10-12 psi.

Looks like my FM2 kit has been modified at some point. I'm probably going to back the boost off. Today it was only hitting 16psi, so my 17psi stated earlier appears to be incorrect. What are your opinions????

So your turbo is more than likely an equivalent of a 2554. On a 1.6 at 15 psi I wouldn't expect much more than 200 whp. if your running 17 psi I'd turn it down before you kill the turbo and/or your motor. What are your ait's like? Were going to need more infoz to be able to help you.

That's about equivalent to my turbo...I wouldn't make much power at 15-17psi either.

15psi from 2554 on a 1.8 makes 230hp.

yes, it's just open like that. Showing just how much of a newb I am. It came like that, and I didn't realize something was supposed to go there.

I may start looking ror a new turbo, any suggestions? The wastegate actuator diaphram is bad anyway (Although replacable, a new turbo would give me more power.)

What EGT sensor do you recommend? There is a hookup on the link to run this sensor

i bet if you plug the hole, with anything, even some bubblegum, you'll get a lot of lost power back.
