As several guys have stated and the book confirms, the differential carrier is engineered to break in a front/rear impact. It protects the rest of the drivetrain when the chassis crumples. I have an extra copy of this book I can send it to you if it would help. You don't have enough posts for PM but you can email me at brian at mx5<dot>net. When this is all resolved, I strongly recommend getting a new insurance carrier. 15% isn't worth this crap. Sorry...
