Default Need opinions on keeping this MazdaSpeed I got

Won this at storage unit auction. Good price too. What do I do with it??? Body is about an 8 out of 10, typical parking lot dings, top is excellent, interior is in good shape...missing the motor. Its not broken it is not in the car. I did get the 6-speed tho.

I've been searching the web and these cars are worth a lot in parts so should I part it or try and rebuild it as a stock mazda speed (knowing how hard and expensive its going to be to find all the missing bits and motor)to sell or just toss a 01-05 VVT motor in it sell my 2000DD and pimp this car NA, in till future turbo mod.

I have seen all the extra bracing and aero on the underside of the car, cool stuff.

I'd say keep it. That color looks fantastic, the interiors on them are nice, the extra bracing is neat, etc.

HOWEVER,

The wiring and ecu will most likely have to be swapped to make the 00 motor work on it.

So might not be worth the trouble.

Keep the car, throw the 2000 engine in it for now, turbo it later on, sell the 2000 as a rolling shell or part it out. You can get an ECU from me so that you won't have to swap the harness/ECU/keys etc from the 2000.

Make it a daily driver, I don't think those make good track cars because they are too heavy and too nice.

I'm thinking of selling the 2000 as is. Good 2001-2005 motors are cheep.

So think you can make a MS that would PNP a 2001-2005 motor in the MSM with out harness swap?

Price?

This sounds like a GOOD IDEA.
All the MSM goodies + VVT.

win win

The two reasons I suggested you use your own 2000 engine is because a) you know it is in good condition and b) you won't have to pay extra for a VVT controller to use the VVT. I'm PMing you on the MS setup.

REV just email me please.

When FM is looking for donors for customers to do a V8 swap, they are recommending MSMs so you could contact them and see if they are looking and see what the buyer would offer.

Or sell it to me.

^^This. With that understood, there are a lot of guys who have replaced the hot side on their MSMs with a real turbo so you should be able to source that. We all gut the OEM intake/exhaust for the FM little enchilada. Did you get the diff and half shafts? They are special. The motor isn't special but some bits like the oil pan and bungs for the oil & water to the turbo are unique.

How is the title on a car like this (storage auction)? If it is clean and you can put it back close to stock they are selling for $12k all day long.

I'd say keep it, but what do I know, just a n00b - had to get rid of my MSM recently, not because I wanted to but because life threw some things at me which required a revisiting of priorities - plus, mine was heavily modded and my daily driver - not so good since I easily clear 1,500 to 2,000 miles a month, mostly in rush hour traffic >:|

There's a guy here in dfw selling the motor/tranny out of his Miata for 800 for the motor or 1200 if you want both - its listed in craigslist, not sure if it is up here in the forum. Not turbo, but a start...

OR, you could always put an LS1 in there

I'd put a 3.63 in that bitch and flauce on the way to work every day with the top dropped, holler back, "money aint a thang".
