New door lock from key
I KNOW this has been answered somewhere, I just can't find the thread. The drivers door lock on my 93 is full of grit and sand and needs to be replaced. Will the dealer be able to make a new lock cylinder from my key?

If you get a new lock cylinder, a locksmith can match the tumblers up to fit your key.
Then again, many of the NA's use the same key so you should be able to just get a replacement. With your VIN you should be able to get the exact lock cylinder and just install it. Not like we have laser cut keys or anything.

No, I tried cleaning it. It started to move a little, but now it's frozen. The passenger side was stuck but I cleaned it out and it's nice and smooth now. I've had the car for 4 years and I never locked the doors (soft top) so I have no idea if it ever worked.
I wasn't sure if Mazda kept track of things like that way back in 93. Looks like I will be taking a trip to the stealership and then I can lock my car at last! (I got a hardtop.)

I went by the dealer today. They said it was $60 for the cylinder and they would NOT make the lock match my key.
Is it just my dealer or am I SOL? I suppose I could swap the lock over from the passenger side, but I hear it's a PITA to get them out.
