Basically the brakes on my car for a 1.6 are puny and a bit ***** seeing I have 190hp now!

So courtesy of EBC Brakes I have grooved and dimpled 1.8 discs and redstuff front and rear pads.

I also decided to get some Goodridge braided brake hoses for a firmer pedal feed all round!

This set-up is supposed to be the bollocks and is the next best thing to a BIG brake conversion. Which is overkill seeing as i will never track the car.

The brakes need to run in so will report back on their performance.

I did some research and there are good and bad reviews about EBC brakes.

Basically they should improve braking 100% cus I have a bigger 1.8 discs that are grooved and dimpled up front and braided hoses meaning they will be less prone to fade.

Oh and they look damn good! :lol:

Luckily there is a custom shop near me that can do custom mandrel bends. They can even fab up the flange. Did you notice a big difference when you changed you're downpipe and exhaust?

I'm going to do a straight pipe with a borla muffler..

 

Nice, how is the stopping power compared to stock, cause I got stock 1.6s with Hawk Blacks in front and Plus in rear?

 

i have the goodrich lines on my mx5 and my EP3.

i have run EBCs and now am on my second set of hawk pads. the hawks have better bite and modulation, the EBCs are good, though. they are quieter and give less dust than the hawks.

 

so far they seem to be working fine and there is a much better braking feel, feedback and confidence.

The dp made a BIG differnce in spool! little louder too!

 

where did you score the 1.8 caliper hangers?

 

Tabs, how do you like your brakes so far? I just upgraded to slotted rotors and redstuff have yet to install the pads. Do you like your brake lines? I can sell them actually as I have an account with Goodridge.

 

I too am waiting for some feedback about the brake lines. My 17 year old rubber brake lines are making me nervous.

 

What is the point of having "dimpled" rotors? Why not just get cross drilled?

 

*shrug* don't know what the point is of dimples, do you get the hot blonde with the fake boobies in the box too??

 

stainless brake lines don't swell like rubber lines do so the pedal is firmer and travels less.

dimples supposedly don't have the cracking issues cross-drilled rotors can develop. the dimples/slots/holes help eliminate the gases that can form between the pad and rotor during use. the same can be said for water. also, the reliefs create more bite for the pads around their edges.

It been a short while and brakes have bedded in nice.

I don't do any track days as it is a show car as well as a everday car.

However, for hard road use I am very impressed. There is no fade. The brakes seem to get better the hotter they get.

The pedal feel is the best...its now firm and not spongey.

However, the pads do dust up allot with hard use.
