Post The Official Rollbar Poll

Another thread got me thinking about rollbars on the street and how some people start lengthy arguements for/against. So rather than argue the merits of a rollbar, let's get some data from the members here. Please only reply if you have had personal experience, no hearsay about your sister's boyfriend's cousin who split his head on a rollbar. Again, this thread is not for arguements but to get data. If you have been injured or saved by a rollbar please post specifics if possible.

First in.. Both scott and I smacked our heads on his padded bar during the accident. If you've never tried it, it hurts. Small price to pay for the insurance against rollovers/chassis stiffening/ghey JDM dudes.

That would be someone off this site. I believe he was running a harddog M1 hardcore single diagonal. i love how everything got smashed and it's a straight line from the front of the hood to the roll bar. He walked away with just a scratch from the gutted doors.

And on the street I was hit from behind and I did not hit my head on my m2 sport bar. I'm 5'10" so I'm really not sure how i didnt hit it.

I'm not too sure how much my contribution will help. I've never been hurt by my rollbar (if you don't count installing it), but I've never been in an accident with it yet either. I think the risk is about the same as smashing my head against the a/b pillar of any other car.

I know you're not looking for hearsay, but there was a local guy (worked at R Speed for a stint) who died in a roll over on the street even though he had a roll bar. He was drunk, going 3X the speed limit, and lost control. I don't know what the official cause of death was, or remember what bar he had.

That being said, there are 2 members on this site that probably had roll bars save their lives. One's pictured here. The other is MarkP's 10AE, and you can find pics on harddog's site.

I hit my head pretty ******* hard on the roll bar once over a bump and blacked out, but my passenger stopped the car for me. I then grew a brain and padded it, because I was resting my head on it as-is. I also bought a track seat because I didn't really fit in the car.

With my Ultrashield seat and how low I sit in the car, I don't see how it could be possible for my head to contact the rollbar.

i have corbeau forza seats that wrap around very high above the shoulder/head and a harness keeps me from getting loose, thus, i also find it fairly impossible to smack my head on any part of the rollbar. if the accident is severe enough for the rollbar to be an issue, i suspect i won't be surviving anyhow.

FWIW, I don't think I could hit my head on my HD bar while belted in if I tried.

+1 this is the way you want to use rollbars, all the proper parts compliment each other. I have sparco sprints mounted as low as possible and 4-point harnesses. my neck would have to elongate like 6 inches for me to make contact.

He's not here, but add Shiv Pathak to that list too. He let a buddy drive his car with him as a passenger. Unfortunately, his buddy drove it up the side of a hill and flipped it. Both were injured but walked away.

I was rear-ended enough to total my car and my head didn't hit the bar (stock seats, I'm 6' tall, avg. torso/leg ratio). I had it double-padded anyway. That impact was straight-on, btw.

A co-worker was rear-ended last month while waiting to merge left and looking over his left shoulder. His head hit the bar and he had a headache for a few days. His bar wasn't padded and he still won't pad it.

I'm still not certain we hit our heads on it, or just the seats did.
