Over so i was in VA and SC. So the heat index was 110 both days. My problem is my car will overheat standing still, what do you think could cause this. Once my moves it lowers back. However, if i turn the AC on, it peggs my temp gauge . Any ideas? What shoudl i test/ replace. I plan to do a coolant flush shortly.

 

run less antifreeze add abit of water wetter to. Are your fans working, how old is the water pump?

 

I don't know condition of the WP. I hooked the fans to parallel. Any chance they are turning the wrong way? Or would it be obvious. Which way should they blow?

 

They should suck air in is what I believe. I would replace your thermostat first. I was over heating and it was caused because of an old stuck thermostat. I picked one up from advance for something like 7$. It takes 15min to change and is a good time to flush your fluid. I would also rn about 75water 25antifreeze.

 

what's your mix? have you recently changed the fluid and didn't burp it? cap leaking? thermostat stuck closed?

 

 

I dont know when my fluid was last changed. I'm getting it flushed when i get my ebrake fixed. I will make sure it's 75/25 when they do it. My fans both work and they blow air at the motor. I got a 180 Therostat and i'll replace it soon. Anyone think WP?

 

Okay so i changed the thermostat. No leaks so that's good. But when i warmed the car up and revved it i ran into a problem. The coolant was brown, maybe it was that to begin with, but when i revved it, Brown sudds came out of the radiator cap(it was off) Any idea what this is? HG? Should i flush the whole system and start from scratch?

 

it's it just ugly, or it it milky?

I'd just drain it...you can do it yourself. Drain it, fill it. Then start the carwith the cap open, once the thermostat opens it will ingest more coolant, add untill you can't anymore...squeeze the lower and upper hose, fill if needed.

Don't pour cold coolant into a hot block.

 

yeah you need to keep filling and draining your radiator until it comes out crystal clear. that's your first step. (pull drain plug, drain, replace plug, refill radiator, drive around the block, come back and allow to sit briefly, pull drain plug, drain, repl....)

 

can i just open the rad cap, and remove the lower hose? than simply run tap water through the cap till it's clean out the bottom, than drain and add distilled/colant mix?

 

that'll help, but wont work as well as ben's step, as you clean the gunk from the gallies in the block itself as well.

you'll need a big *** tub for a catch basin, and somewhere to put the old coolant. It's an easy job, but messy.

once the water is clear, drain out about 1/3 gal of water and replace it with antifreeze. leave the rad cap off, and let the car idle. check on it every few minutes, and add water to keep the level full (air will purge). Once the level stops going down, you are good to go. Check the level over the following few days to be sure you're good.

 

once the level is not dropping anymore should i manually put in a mix to the reservoir.

 

stop over thinking. do exactly what i said to do and you'll be fine.

Well the water is all drained, but it was a little oily, so im going to do a head gasket swap.

 

do a leak down check first. HG may not be necessary, or worthwhile.

 

yeah a leakdown test first...dont want to do all the work for nothing....fwiw, first time i drained mine it was ugly and brown and nasty.
