Default Painting track car........what color?

I am painting my track miata soon and I need to choose a color. I was thinking black or even flat black, but that seems kind of standard for people to paint track cars.

What is something interesting that you guys have seen or have ever wanted to see? I have seen the 787B painted miatas and i really like that but a little too detailed for me to paint.

then pick another of your favorite race cars and copy that scheme. Maybe porsche ALMS style, yellow car with a white stripe that is narrow by the bumper and fans out as it approaches the windshield.

or a matte black car with 2 red stripes running down the far edges of the hood that wrap around the whole car would be cool too

I acutally like the idea of the matte black with the red outline. Another thing i was thinking of was possibly a dark matte blue. I think that would look very good.

yeah, but its a race car, so just having it blue would be bland and Hustler wouldn't even see you before he ran you over. Its gotta have stripes or zig-zags or something

Are you just painting it yourself, or having it done?

If you are doing it yourself. I'd say get duplicolor semiflat in what ever color the car is in now. And add some decals or strips in the color you want.

If your body is straight. I might try the shiny paint. There is no since in making one look less cool just cause your floating around a track. Almost everything can be done cheap.

For the price of paint, I HAVE A MACO SHOP THAT WILL PAINT IT. It looks pretty good.
less than $290 they will give a decent paint job that you would so rather drive than flat.

And for less than $490 they will give you a paint job with a 4 yr warrenty. I have the hook up. The paint isn't like other maccos that suck. These guys can paint. I used them 4 times now. They cut me deals, and they tape everything.

Not being racist. But these are old pickey White guys. They do a good job for the money.

Yeah...the guys at the Macco here are white guys...couldn't paint a car if I did it for them. I took a 1969 Camaro in for a quick and painless once over...to keep it from rusting while I worked on other cars...2 months and rust came through.

If Toddcod is reppin these people though...I say try it. The paint for my car alone cost me $300.

BTW...that Lambo is the hotness.

well for the race car I am going to roll on tremclad, because I expect body damage and can easily pick up a new panel and roll on a few coats in a cheap/fast manner. And it doesn't look as bad as the MACCO paint job on my 240 (that is rusting through btw)

If that is what you are going to do...just buy and use Black Laquer...cheap as **** and hard as **** to screw up a paint job. I painted some wiper blade arm and had them dry to touch in 20 minutes...back on the car in 30.

If it's track only do something crazy, especially if you are doing it yourself, it won't cost you a hole lot. Go with colors like orange, yellow, lime green, all in a scheme. Why not?

As far as flat and matte colors go, they look good on exotic cars, but on a Miata it just looks like you are trying to be cheap. I'd stay away from that route.

Using my professional photoshop skillz, I created this lifelike representation of what I think would look badass on a track car.

Who needs photoshop when you have MS Paint?

If I can figure out how to generate a a graphics file of some sort, AI, EPS, PSD, etc so that my vinyl guy can cut them on the machine, I am SOOOO doing this to my car.

I think 2005 Viper Copperhead Orange with a big black stripe down the driver's side would look mean.

I am definately painting it myself. I have the entire car stripped inside and out, like the targa miata when they painted it. I have been thinking about possibly doing something like sunburst yellow, becasue i have always wanted a yellow miata. I don't know that i want my track car to be yellow though.

The body is pretty straight with a few dings and dents, but a little glazing putty and elbow grease will take those right out. I have a paint booth at my house, so i'm not just doing it in a garage like in college.

Goal is to have this complete by 4/24, but it may take that long to choose my color.

remember that any really bright colors (sunburst yellow) may reflect a lot of light into your eyes off of the hood while driving. I believe this is why some of the older muscle cars had flat black hoods.
