Unhappy Please help!

Hi guys, first of all thanks for taking the time to read my post and try to help me out here a few months ago i purchased my first miata and love it! I have some pictures of the car to post but im stuck at work right now ha.

So here is my issue which is a big one. The car ran great met up with a frined who has a miata as well, helped lower his car and after that was finished i decieded to run a constant 12 volt wire to the radio because the previous owner had tied the 12v and acc wire together and ran it off an acc wire which caused all my presets and radio to reset after i turned the car off everytime which got very annoying. Under the dash i used a multi meter to test for 12v wire it was a white/black wire that followed up into the steering column. Tapped into that ran the wire to the radio it all worked great i tested the radio on the acc postion with the key. Everything worked great! I put everything back together and while we were working on the cars i deiced to do a compression test being i had the car for a few months wanted to see where it sat at which everything came up great!

The top was down and playing music popped the hood to start the test and noticed that the " ignition coils were smoking and cam sensor was extremely hot" turned off the car completely and they cooled down waited about 10 minutes tried to start the car, it turned over for a second or 2 then dies... if i turn the key again to try and start it, wont start i have to turn the car off completley and try again for it to turn over for a second or 2 ..... also the key buzzer stopped working at the sametime?

This is what ive done so far... i replaced the cam sensor, check all fuses, fuel pump turns on, there is spark because it turns over for a second or 2 ... also i even disconnected the alternator an tried to run it straigt from the battery thinking it was that still doesnt start... Help any ideas

What year car is it?

Do you know you have spark or are you just guessing? You changed the CPS with a known good one?

You should go back over the wiring you did and find the problem before you burn more stuff up. Like the ECU, if you havent already.

Its a 95, i assume im getting spark because it turns over for a second or 2 then dies. but when it does idol for a second or 2 the rpms dont register i dont know if thats because it may be in limp mode or the ecu is just telling the car to shut off ... Everything else works i did notice on the wiring for the radio there was no fuse so something had to short out... Im just completley lost on what to do from here??

Turns over is different than runs. Please be specific.

Tach signal comes from the coils through the ignitor, so if no signal those items may be toast as well. Especially given that you saw the coils smoking.

it will actually start though and run for a second or 2 then shut off right away and wont alow me to rev it or anything to keep it running ... its like starting a car and turning it off right away

check your fuses, specifically the room and cigar fuses.

Dont run random wires to random places.

the black/blue wire behind the radio goes through the 15A cigar fuse and back to the ign switch.

the constant 12v source should have been the blue/red wire which goes back through the 10A room fuse, then the 40A BTN fuse, then the 80A MAIN fuse, the the battery.

I'm pretty sure the blk/white wire you tapped is the tach signal coming from your coils into the instrument cluster. while there's going to be 12v on that signal if you test it with a DMM, it's NOT a 12v source (the 12v just happens to be from a pull resistor to give power ot the square wave pattern)...im sure you overloaded that crap out of it. Who knows what damage you caused and where...im no EE. Do you smell eletrical nastiness behind the passenger seat?

no there is no smell there i pulled the ecu last night opened it up to check on the insides for any broken connections everything looked great and brand new ... the White/Black wire doesnt goto the cluster though i followed it as much as i could. It was a thick wire that went up into the steering column

well, check. it goes back the the ecu, the diagnostics box (ig-), and the coil packs.

I gave you the best wires to use for power for your radio.

If the MAF is plugged in, but sees no air flow, it will kill the fuel after a second.
