Well I dropped the car off to have the new coilovers installed yesterday.... It's cold and I'm lazy

Anyway I get a call from them saying that the coilovers DO NOT FIT.... which is odd because I got them brand new, they were shipped to me directly from K-sport, and they were in a sealed box labelled with the correct year and model car ( it's a 2000 NB)

I spent all day at work, on and off the phone with The manufacturer and the shop that was doing the install.... needless to say I'm stressed! I have pictures that were sent to me by the shop....

I have been told that the rears hit the CV shaft, and the fronts are 4 inches too short..... i know that they are shorter than stock, but 4 inches????

I have a feeling that the issue is that they did not jack the lower mounting point up at all in order to do the install..... they have to have done something incorrectly!

Here are the pics, insight would be helpful, as I am a suspension virgin of sorts, and I was not there for the install!

 

Did they mount them backwards? I am not familar with the NB setup.

 

It looks like they put the front shocks on the rear.
I can't believe a professional shop couldn't figure that out.

 

That's exactly what they did. The longer one goes on the front. This is a shop you trust? I always do my own work.

 

holy **** they are stupid. hopefully they didn't damage anything trying to force em. what a nightmare out of what is a 2-3 hour job. how do you manage to not notice the shock body lengths on the stock fronts & rears and get the new ones reversed?

did they have "this end up" arrows on them or was that just a lucky guess?

 

funny thing is, looks like the comparison shot of oem vs aftermarket looks like the correct match....

 

I no longer trust shops to do any kind of suspension work on my car. Installing coil overs is so simple, yet they assembled mine incorrectly, so that they self destructed after a few months.

And then I totaled the car because of the stock springs up front in place of the broken coil overs and after market in the rear... Still my fault, but the car was snappy as hell, and I like to think that I am still a good driver .

And another time someone forgot to tighten the top shock bolt and the shock was bouncing up and down through the mount!

Definitely check to see that they have put it in right.

This is just sad... In stock form, the fronts are longer than the rears. What makes these folks think the new ones should be the opposite...

 

Don't jump to conclusions. we have no evidence that these folks did any thinking at all.
