Default protege 1.8 oil pumps gears VS miata pumps gears

I have what i believe to be a protege 1.8 block with what i assume is a protege oil pump and everything attached to the block. The problem i have is that the gears are different sizes and im looking to install the billet oil pump gears.

So my question is:

Are the protege oil pumps interchangeable with the miata oil pumps?

Anyone have a miata longnose oil pump?

This one isn't suitable for use. I pulled it out a motor I killed a few years ago.

So ill help answer my question, partially.

The crank on my protege block is about 1 cm smaller than the longnose crank on a busted 1.6 i have in my garage. Now to test it on a 1.8. Anyone know if the oil pumps are different on the 1.6 and 1.8's? Im assuming they are the same since the group buy on the oil pump gears were "all longnose cranks"

Well.. I have an Escort block in my Miata with the Miata 1.8 Crankshaft and oil pump.. Not sure what kind of interchange you're asking. IIRC the 1.6 and 1.8 Miata oil pumps are the same, but the protege uses a smaller diameter crank and isn't the same as either of the miata motors... I could be incorrect about that, just best I remember.

Also the Protege/Escort uses a hybrid belt system.. V-Belt alternator and water pump, other accys are micro-v.

96 Escort uses the same belt setup as the Miata.

I can't remember the user, but a user had pm'd me and said he had interchanged just the pumps between the motors without problems. If the pumps are different, I believe I can still accommodate you as long as its not a huge difference in design.

Travis, its not your fault i had ordered the wrong gears for my application without knowing what i was getting into. Here are some pictures to show the differences.

miata gears in ziplock bag after a bit of sanding... with protege gears ontop:

Now im wondering if i can swap a 1.8 longnose crank and oil pump over to my protege block.. This could work after all.

Well, I want to help if I can. So if you end up in a position where you can't use the gears, get a hold of me and I'll try to work something out.
