I have yet to track my miata. I'd guess it should be somewhere in the mid 12's with me driving. probably 11's if someone who knows what they're doing drove it

lol that's such an ignorant statement. They're two completely different styles of racing that really have nothing in common. Different experiences in both and are both fun.

Your Miata does that? A 1.6 was all I could muster up in the TA.

Does that count? If so, it was also a bit boring.

After busting a few t56's, a few bottoms ends, twisting a 3.5 inch DS into a pretzel, and busting an "unbreakable" BMR torque arm, I decided it was not worth the little bit you get your rocks off for "that 10 seconds or less".

NTM it was refreshing parting out a heavily pilled 347 A3 00' WS6.

Auto-x brings in about 60% of the rush for 30-45 seconds, costs 1/4 of the amount, and you can have fun in just about anything you take to it.

No 1.71 was my best in a Miata.

Actually it was in the 1.3's (oops). Back in my 'domestic' days (Mustang).

On tires and some power, it leaves very hard.
You've got to define "perform well". Many would say anything > 13.0 and a 60 over 1.8 is not performing well, yet you can probably count on two hands the Miatas that better those.

Really easy? That takes DRs and a decent clutch, plus a lot of practice. Not many people are willing to trash a 5 speed to run a good 1/4 pass in a Miata.

'Perform well' is any car that picks up large gains with little modification. Not neccesarily a car that goes real fast. If you go to dragtimes.com you will find way more Miatas that exceed 13.0 and 1.8 60' than what you can count on two hands. Also, you would get many more cars that exceed 1.8 60' if people were using drag race tires that are used in drag racing when you are drag racing. Would you not use the proper tire when road racing? Last time I checked, it took a lot of practice to go real fast on a road race coarse too, or to do anything good for that matter.

Would you not spend money on equipment when you do other motorsports?? Will a stock Miata outrun a Formula One car, Corvette, or an S2000 on a road race or autocross track? Yet it is the most successful factory car ever produced in racing as far as numbers raced.

As far as durability, you are assuming you will break all kinds of parts when drag racing as opposed to road racing. I have made over 200 passes in my car, both nitrous and health normally aspirated, and I never broke a transmission or rear end. That was with me launching at 7000. I did break axles, but that was because of an alignment issue.

It does not matter what car you have, foreign or domestic, the faster you go the more parts you break. I could not run a stock transmission in the Chevrolets or Fords I use to race.

That is still getting out pretty hard. The first time I saw daylight under the tires of the WS6 was at a low 1.7. My NA in its current form SHOULD cut a 1.6-1.7 if I cared to take it to the track..... But its just more fun being a poser

My best 60ft ever was 1.78 and that was on a gsxr600 set up for road racing. Ended up running a [email protected] The bike should have been able to run in the 10's with that trap speed, I'm just not that good at launching.

I still haven't had the mazda on any track yet and to be honest, I'm on straight roads about 80% of the time. I actually find myself hitting the twisties less now that the turbo's on.

I have had the chance to do a few roll ons with some notable cars, usually from like 20-60 and I've been pretty impressed. I pulled on a wrx and a srt4, but my favorite was a standing start against this chopper bike with loud *** exhaust. He got the jump on me but by the time I redlined second, I cought up and hung with him until he let off at like 75mph.

It doesn't take much to beat an older Mustang GT. Only took 20 years for them to get their muster back on the GT model.

Haha! I have a sportster 883, and at 10psi my miata will put bus lengths on it. I also used to have a ninja 500, and just about the same results. Not even a race. Good stuff.

I just got done working on a 99 mustang cobra with a 5 speed and I swear my 99 miata with 6psi felt quicker. Am I imagining things or what? I couldn't get over how slow that thing felt, and I'm pretty sure they're mid 13 second cars.

Anyway, with a perfect launch and perfect shifting am I wrong to think that a low boost miata will run 13's?

Allow me to chime in on this one as I happen to have recent results from this past Monday and years of racing..

Lets assume Your tune is in good order being all perfect given your setup and assuming you already have experience at the strip there is no way your hitting 13s. With a good launch and decent set of street tires your most likely going to see high 14s.

Worst thing anyone can do is have high expectations only to end up disappointed because "mustang felt slower" statement.. Of course it would, remember weight makes a big difference on the perception of speed. It may have felt slower to you but could very well be much faster down the strip.. Gotta love physics so again too many variables dictate your times but just for reference I did :

14.504 @ 98.3mph. T3 .48ar .42ar @9psi / MSpnp / 320cc inj / meth injection / 225/45R15 Toyo R1r this is on a internally bone stock 1.6. And it was around noon time during this massive heat wave we are having.

With this very same setup I destroyed a brand new Nissan 370z just the day before which is on paper a mid 13 second car straight of the showroom floor, just goes to show........ Variables......

This is probably a stupid question but what makes our cars so different than a car that is better suited for 1/4 mile (say a stang or even a honda). Im sure suspension, tires, gearing, but does that make our 1/4 time so shitty?

about 13's on 6psi. there is a difference between 6psi 35r and 6psi t2554. OP you'll have to be WAYY more specific.
But based on the typical low boost setups I'd say it will be hard to hit 13's

our cars were never meant for the quarter mile, so they suck at it compared to other cars. I'd say no you won't hit 13's with 6psi

Whoah, missed this question from 2 years ago.. now that this thread is bumped I'll reply.

These were both from a roll, at 7000ft altitude (turbo has advantage). From a dig either of these would have probably gotten the jump, but at the rate I pulled on these bikes I would have the lead by 120mphish.
