I've never done anything more than hold the belt on the teeth on one gear, work the tensioner with the other hand, then use my elbow to hold the belt and free up my hand to slip the belt on the other gear (while holding it in place with my 3rd hand). Somehow I have done it and gotten it right the first time like 4 out of the 5 times I had to do it over the last 4 or 5 months. Its magic. Im sure the crescent wrench and vice grip/c clamp idea is easier though. Have to account for the tensioner moving the belt though, which is a guessing game unless you've done it enough.

I have the tool R-speed sold yearss ago. It has grooves for the teeth on the cams and just slips right between the 2, locking them in place. I also have the FM snout seal installer. Used them both now a couple times, def worth the $20 or so they cost me.
