Awaiting a motor I went to the jy and pulled a b2200 bellhousing so I try and figure out the trans adapter. Every bolt is close but no good, going to redrill holes in the tranny and have them line up with tapped holes on the adapter. Obviously the adapter will bolt to the motor in the standard spots with flush mount bolts.
Was supposed to get a motor this weekend but buddy bailed on me so hopefully next weekend I'll have it and start fitting it and working on some new manifolds. |
Good choice going FE3.
If you really document your build you should consider making a retail swap kit for us lazy asses... If it was priced right I think you'd definitely sell some, it could be truly complete & still over $1K less than any V8 swap since you'll have the option to reuse more Mazda pieces, like as your "base package." (Of course you could offer Ford 8.8, Honda S2K, 7" Mazda Torsen packages, 225mm RX-7 clutches & beefcake driveshafts/axles/hub combos etc that handle stupid WHP numbers like the V8 setups too...) |

I've already considered this because I think this motor would be a great base for all the guys who want to stay N/A and make some decent power. Fe3 and itb's with a 6speed and 4.10's would probably be a decent little setup. Once I have a decent solution for the added block height and weight I think it will be a perfect swap to replace the built bp's everyone runs. |

Imagine an n/a FE3 revving to 9K rpms.

Anybody look into cams for FE3 (to stay NA)?

rbluemx6, any links to before/after dyno plots for a cam regrind? Or any info on what regrind has worked with FE3 cams before?
Thanks Tim |
Here are the specs on a stock FE3N in/ex cams. Courtesy of cam22t over at mx6.com:
http://img325.imageshack.us/img325/9642/cams6yq.jpg Most regrinds are turbo applications. I haven't found any specs on N/A regrinds yet, still looking. But me thinks if you get a hold of an FE5A set, you'll make good power till 8000rpms. After 8K you'll need to look into outer valve springs, solid lifters, and rods(<--believe it or not). |
