FWIW, the pipe also makes it easy to lift the tires onto and off of the car and carry them to the garage/basement. there'll be plenty of room under the tires and in the passenger footwell for luggage.

Surprised no one has mentioned using your roll bar. Savington, this doesn't really apply to you since you have a HT but I always stick my tires behind the roll bar with the top down, put a ratchet strap through the centers and put both hooks somewhere that I don't remember. You can fit all four tires easy, six with two kinda sticking out.

 

While in NC, I spent 100$ on a used DaLan hitch and another 120$ on a used tire trailer with a box and spare tire on already. Sure, I could only do 55mph with it (plus 30% taxes, right?) but I hauled tires, 2 tool boxes, cooler, 2 chairs, snacks, floor jack, tarp, fluids, RedBull, overnight bag, laptop AND my GF to the track in style. Just get the trailer and be done with it.

Btw, you can store the trailer standing up, if you want to save space and I used some fat padlocks and wires to make sure nobody stole my ****.

 

and THAT is why I bought the Mazdaspeed6. 4 R-Comps, jack, tool box, and some misc junk fit in the trunk of the 6.

Before I had the MS we were just ratchet strapping them to the roll bar upright like the PVC.

 

Damn dude was your dad or buddy bussy having someone follow or drive with you would be a better idea. As far as getting even 1 tire in the trunk i doubt it will happen those tires are just to big an tall. I think your setup will work just fine if you are willing to make that trade off. Have you qouted ups etc shipping to your dorm room? It would probably be pretty cheap,

 

thebeerbaron: genius idea, thats exactly what i'll be doing for this year.

 

one more thought on the tire-carrying thing. if you carry tires frequently, you will rub the paint off the underside of your trunk lid, along the reinforcements. it might not show up the first time or two, but if you do it once or twice a month for a couple of seasons, you'll be down to bare metal. some friction tape or gaffers tape might help.

 

Did the PVC thing. Worked like a charm, but the car really didn't want to go more than about 80 or so.

I don't have any place to store a trailer, and the 55mph limit would really, really blow. Ideally I could get a beefier hitch than the DaLan and use something like a Joe Hauler, but I'll probably end up with a used DaLan at some point.

 

I guess you did the test-monkey drill for us. Looks like the trunk lid can handle around 120 lbs of stuff strapped to it. I recognized the tread pattern as NT01s. Just got mine in the mail from the DT super deal. Now I need wheels to put them on. No street miles for them if I can help it.
