It would suck for the street but you could get a used Kirkey pretty cheap just to try out the concept. They are hard to get in and out of, but when you are in YOU ARE IN.

I sat in some Lotus Elis seats at MSR-H and they are awesome! I would go with those, plus they hold their value.

It might if the groin strap on the 5-pt harness is too tight
Seriously though I have driven a bit with mine on public roads and it is comfortable. The only thing that sucks is getting in and out. Actually, now that I think of it, unless you have a removable wheel you might not want to bother with the Kirkey. The side bolsters coming up from the bottom of the seat are really tall (it is a racing seat). Thus I gave up pretty quickly on trying to get in and out of it with the stock wheel. I installed a removable wheel soon after I installed the seat.

If the top is down, not too bad maybe. Top up, difficult to get in and out. Really it is not a good DD seat IMO.

I've ridden in a car with Kirkeys (Kirkies?!), and while they felt like a shoe, it was about like getting into one. Driving was great, but they are anything but practical.

The pro street drag seats are the way to go for a DD from Kirkey. Much easier to get in and out of. The car I sat in with them was pretty good getting in and out vs the Sparco Sprint and Momo Evo I've had in my car. Suprisingly comfortable too. The guy had these seats...

Kirkey pro street drags.

quoted for posterity.

the elise seat is hardly a race seat and it's TOO MUCH of a race seat for me.

I'm trying to make the car easier to live with as a daily, not make it a bitch to get in and out of.

so while I appreciate the suggestions, there will never be an aluminum tub in this car while it's a daily driver.

find me some of this action from the lotus europa:

Thread back on track - NO RACE SEATS!!!

How are those Europa's any different functionally from an elise seat? Obviously they are beautiful but it looks like there is just as much bolstering.

but who will stick up for the crazy liberals!?

btw, that "seat" doesn't fit a miata. way too wide. and wouldn't lower me at all. but otherwise... it might fit aforementioned buick.

I think they're similar. intended to be street car sport seats. probably only major difference is styling and the harness holes in the backrest.

Though I do not think I am being very helpful that really is not my intent. Or iiissss iiitt???

What I was getting at (not very well) with the Kirkey idea is that if you want to try out a really low seat that would be a cheap way to do it. Kirkeys are cheap used, and you can turn around and sell it. The Intermediate race would probably make you suicidal, but that drag bucket could work. Anyway fuhgedaboutit.

Those Europa seats look fantastic.
