Shifter moving side to side under power
I was doing 55mph in 4th gear, and I gave it some gas to get moving and my shifter started moving side to side in my hand. On the streets I tried the same thing and if I am in low revs and give it gas in 3rd, 4th and 5th the shifter moves side to side on it's own.
The car has 63,400 on it and I am assuming the same clutch it had when it left the factory. I'm running 5psi and have been for about 3 summers. I'm guessing the clutch is toast or the flywheel is warped. While I was giving it gas in the low revs it also felt like the car missed, but watching the tach it didn't move. Could that be the clutch slipping? I'm assuming it slips which lets the shifter slide over, then grips which pushes it back. The slip feeling has been around for a few weeks, the rocking shifter just started today.

I forgot one important part, it isn't like I hit the gas and then it moves, let off and it moves back. When I hit the gas it shakes back and forth until I either go aboke 4k or I clutch in.
Last time I checked my mounts were in good shape, but I suppose I should take another look.

MazdaComp, not MazdaSpeed. MSM's had the same motormounts as everyone else.
I have a set of the MazdaComp mounts in my car, and they're actually not bad at all. There is some increase in vibration at idle, but apart from that nothing noticeable.

I have the mazdacomp motor mounts. Not that bad for me either. Though i also have a 4-puck ACT clutch.
Funny thing, my shifter was 'torque-ing' over to the side...... then i discovered i had broken my PPF lol

Well I haven't had a chance to check the mounts, hopefully I can tommorow. I haven't been able to make the car do it again. It was really obvious when it did, so I dunno.
Unless there is something really wrong with the motor mounts I don't see how they would be causing the engine to rock back and forth under constant acceleration.
Post a video of what you are talking about, I'd like to see the kind of movement.
Motor mounts are probably in order, but I wouldn't say it is a slam dunk fix for your problem.

I helped a friend install a set of MS motormounts cause his engine rocked so badly you could push the engine from side to side with just light pressure.
We installed the mounts and the problem was cured.
Well I pushed the engine side to side and looked down at the mounts. I didn't see any movement and it didn't feel like they let the engine move very much.
I'm sure they could use replacing, but I don't think they are my problem. I'd video what the shifter did, but I can't make it do it again.
I'm not going to bother with it now, the car is going up for the winter soon. I'm going to be changing the clutch and flywheel to 1.8 parts anyway. I suppose changing the engine mounts should go on the list.
