I sold my last project a few months ago. An 87 Mustang GT I had been buidling on for the past 5 years...I had around 20K in it...I got 10 for it.
I'll have to disagree with Joe. A modded Miata won't ever gain value. You will always sell it for a loss. Comparing it to a stock is a bad example. By keeping it you will also realize the loss in interest you are paying for the car payment. You might hold onto it to be able to sell it for less loss in the future but you will also be putting more miles on it, paying insurance for it, and having it lose value by getting older.
If your financial situation isn't great right now, sell it. It's just a car.

The time and effort spent on parting the car out and buying stock parts to replace the modified ones can be spent earning money elsewhere with half the labor and time involved.

i don't understand why anyone would do what we do to cars and think selling off this crap is an option.
Cars aren't financial investments...especially an aftermarket turbo one. However, they are so much fun that they're priceless and irreplaceable. Nothing makes me feel better than a day at the track.
