1990 turbo miata with stage 2 clutch. I put a stage 2 clutch in my miata works good holds power but has a reoccurring problem. I can't keep clutch hydraulics. Going on my 3rd slave cylinder and 2nd master cylinder this year/20k miles. Do you guys experience this problem? Can I switch out the hydraulics from a truck that has the same stroke/distance on slave cylinder? It's pretty much my daily driver and this gets very annoying replacing hydraulics every 5k miles

 

The slaves are notorious for poor seals and allowing dirt into the system. Swap both the master and slave at the same time, preferably with a quality part and not just what your part store has for cheapest. While they are off, spend sometime flushing hardline(s) with clean fluid unit it comes out absolutely clear.

 

Clutch hydraulics are consumables on these cars. Along with wheels.

I'm also guessing that due to simply calling the clutch a "Stage 2" it's probably Ebay, which means it has a pretty milquetoast friction disc along with a pressure plate that's huge overkill, which puts a ton of stress on your hydraulics.

 

Not enough people use "milquetoast" these days.

And OP, the life you're getting from the master and slave is really low, yeah they wear often on these cars, but not that often.
I'd be spending the extra on decent stuff next time, either OEM or another trusted brand (pretty sure i have a Protex one in mine)

Or just rebuild the slave, takes all of 10mins to do, and you can at least check the bore isnt pitted etc while you're doing it.

Yes it is Ebay lol, and for 200 bucks I couldnt complain holds 250 hp daily. Said it was a kevlar disk but who knows honestly, I found out when I went to h20i my clutch adjustment nut came loose and it backed itself off, gave it some more adjustment and now it works. We will see how much longer this slave will last, it's a exedy slave which I guess is basically oem on miatas. Btw my whole car is ebay, from the turbo to the used 1.8 dif. Been running it for a year now and didnt blow up at 220 hp.

 

I have a exedy slave which seems to be lasting a long time, maybe autozone just had cheap slaves idk :/

 

Go look up videos of cheap flywheels and clutches failing.
Now, observe where they sit in relation to your body within the vehicle.

 

Iv had my clutch for a year and half and beat the ***** out of, didnt fail yet. I think I just was getting cheap slave cylinders, and that's why a clutch is enclosed in the transmission enclosed in a transmission tunnel.

What if I told you the transmission case isnt very strong and the tunnel is even less strong.

 

How many guys do you see with bulletproof bell housings, and upgraded transmission tunnels, when I put my built motor in with a bmw 5 speed in and I'm making 400 hp, I'll invest in a good clutch and a upgraded transmission tunnel. 220 hp miata I really dont think is going to send my clutch flying through my leg and it hasn't so far doing 20 plus burnouts at h20i all night. I drive a turbo miata how much regards to safety do you think I have . Likey to die more from a guy in his 60k truck to hit me then my clutch flying apart impaling me.

4, duh. 2x Stage 2 = Stage 4

 

I'll never forget the day my friend's brother tried to show us what a good burnout his new car could do. He jumped out of the car and yelled "Ow, it's spitting hot **** at me!" The car rolled over to the curb and spewed a giant puddle. Luckily he suffered no permanent damage, just a couple cuts and burns.
