Default overheating problem!!!

Hi guys, well today as i was buying a burger my car overheated, I was paying when the cashier asked me if my car was ok. I looked and my car was smoking and spilling antifreeze i was like WTF!!! So i checked the car and the fan was not turning on. I waited for it to cool and then drove home. I tested the fan to see if it worked and it did. So why doesnt the fan turn on? help a newbie out

The sensor on top of the thermostat housing might be faulty. What year is your car?

my car is 1992 and its turbo(greddy). I forgot to mention i went to kragen and bought the temp sensor u r talking about and it didnt fit. The one they gave me has to pins and the one for my car has only one. I returned it and they said i would have to buy it from mazda. is that true?

All the sensor does is go to ground when it hits 97*C. No idea if you can source it anywhere else than Mazda. There are a couple of people parting out 90-93 Miata here right now.

how hot was it. My 92 only got hot once in texas summer heat when I was stuck in a bank drive through line for like 25 minutes.

I was running a dual core radiator from an automatic miata

You can splice a switch to the wire and use it to turn the fan on manually. It just gets tripped to ground like someone said. It is a good safety feature just in case.
