PCV Valve Replacement

PCV Valve Replacement
I'm fully ready to deal with the flame so do your worst. I have a 94 M with 108,000 miles on it. I have some big aspirations for this car but before I start any sort of modifications to the engine or suspenion, I want it to run reliably. What's the point of having 250hp if you can't track because the engine is blown, right? Before this car, I hadn't done anything more than an oil change
Anyway, I saw some oil around the spark plug and decided that I should probably change out the valve cover gasket. Watched some videos on youtube, took off all the bolts in the correct order and labeled them and baggied them.
Now when I went to take the PCV valve hose off, half the PCV valve came with it and I cant get it out of the grommet. The grommet no longer feels like rubber, it's hard and not pliable.
How do I go about getting this PCV Valve + Grommet out of the housing? Can I stick something in there and pry it out?
Picture attached of what I'm working with.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

just pry it out. if it falls back in, youll have to pul lthe valve cover, and remove the baffle behind the hole, then reseal the baffle and reinstall, and reseal the VC and reinstall for something that should have taken no longer than 3 seconds.
