Does your O2 sensor get in the way at all using that thing?

 

Just cut a hole for the O2 sensor.

 

I'm lazy so its just kinda shoved up around it.

Also the clamps will not fit around a 3" flex joint. So make sure its a short enough flex joint.

 

That last picture adds a lot of reference for the 2' length aidan. Is that shielding fairly stiff?

Pat: You're missing a bellhousing bolt on the transmission. Probably know but figured I'd mention :P Also, nice work. I'd have copied it but also bought the same covers as Aidan. 3' section for by the diff and gas tank too assuming it will fit around the diff and axle.

Do I see two of them missing? Obvious lower right on trans, but what about the closer pic looking 'up' the downpipe?

For anyone curious, the two sections I made are 3" long and 12" long.

The heat shielding I am using on my trans tunnel is quite flammable. I may order that thing Aidan bought.

Reading is really hard.

 

As an update, my shield I made has dropped the heat going into the footwell area by about half. Very noticeable difference. It still gets fairly warm, but it's wayy better than before. So I assume the transmission is also getting less heat too. I don't have any temp sensors on my transmission though to confirm. I'll try and measure the case temp at some point to see what that shows.

 

Good to hear. From Aidan's thread it sounds like those Amazon heat shields are smoking when they get hot.

 

I don't think he got the DEI version, I did. They might be a different material, we shall see. I'll report in on if the dyno tech sees anything burning Tuesday lol

 

As an update, my shield short shield I made is doing fine. The longer one, one end broke almost all the mounting tabs from vibration fatigue. I dropped the exhaust to do some other work and found the problem. So I cut off all the tabs on the end with failed tabs and riveted new, substantially beefier/thicker stainless tabs to it and reinstalled it.

Will report back in a few months if the repair is solid or sooner if it fails again. I think it's fixed now, the sheet metal was extremely thin (about .004"), new is .018" stainless for the replacement tabs.
