No, it's not a big deal at all, just funny, as one of our vendors e-mailed me the other day at work and called me "Brain."

I used the miata clips and they worked fine...

hmm, once my rx7 lsd comes in the mail ill see if they fit....from everything I've read teh miata clips are a tad larger and they wont allow the miata stubs to fit into the rx7 unit.

Greased them up, pushed them flush then slide the axles in nice and easy.

I too had to use the RX-7 clips. I bought a set of both Miata and RX-7 clips because I wasn't entirely sure what to expect.

Does anyone have a good source for these yet? Also what are these clips that you keep mentioning, sry haven't messed with diffs a whole lot. I imagine I will be doing this before too long.

I put up an ad on rx7club.com and got quite a few replies very quickly. I think ive finally sealed the deal on an 86 lsd and a 3.9 miata ring/pinion for 100+ shipping. So far my experience with the people over there has been very positive. By the way, the guy also has a torsen differential that he offered me for 100, so once im sure he is a trusted source, ill refer someone to him.

Nope, those are the bearing races.

The cir-clips, or c-clips, just look like little "C's" made out of ~16ga. metal rod.

ok please excuse me for my neverending dumb questions, but wouldnt I only need those if i was using the rx7 stubshafts? Or are they needed to slide into the new differential?

btw, i think this thread should be made a sticky.

You need the RX-7 c-clips when installing any type of axle, be it RX-7 stub-shaft, Miata stub-shaft or full Miata half-shaft, into an RX-7 LSD.

Also, be sure to use the correct differential output seals to match your shaft (i.e. use Miata output seal for Miata half-shaft, RX-7 seal for RX-7 stub-shaft, etc.).

Someone should've sticky'd one of the other six times I've posted this info.

akaryrye, since you already have a complete 1.8 rear, the only two things you would need is a 84-88 non-turbo lsd and rx7 circlips. I have a bit of this written up in my FAQ....when i do my swap ill take pictures and do a write-up for the projects page (i have a rx7 lsd to put in my 1.8 open).
