Default turbo or supercharged

I have a guy wanting to sell me a supercharged 95 on my local indy craigslist. I could get it for around 5k. It seems to run good and it is an older guy so I dont think it has been thrashed alot. Should I go turbo or supercharged.

Do you see the rusty rotors and all the leaks under the hood? It might be worth $3500, depends how rusted it is underneath. Save your money for a nicer one, many cheap deals to be had going into winter. I bought my red 94 three weeks ago with the hardtop for $2500 with 131k miles on her.

mp45 is garbage overall without a ton of custom work these cars dont increase in value very notable with performance upgrades its sad but true. If i where to sell my car at 300 whp i would probly only get alil more than a clean NA price for it and somewhere near half or less the amount of $$ i put into it thus far. Unless i found someone who absolutely loved it.

"Roll bar" more likely to kill you than anything else? Check.

Wheels that can double as boat anchors? Check.

Rust? Check.

Supercharger that probably gives the car about 130whp? Just sad...

My run instinct came up when he said "usual Miata rust." Rust that someone doesn't care to fix when noticed scares me. If it's a beater, maybe, still iffy.

Nothing you add to a Miata (or most cars) is an "investment"... ie if you try to sell the car and get back what you spent you won't. Spending money on cars isn't an investment opportunity, it's an entertainment expense (unless you're buying old Ferraris or similar and even those guys get burned). Bottom line is buy what makes you happy, do what you want to it, and don't worry about whether it adds value to the car.

As for this particular car... +1 to the rest of the comments, I'd run away not walk.

If that's an M45, I'd value the supercharger setup at around 600$, maybe. It's weak and expensive to get less weak.

The supercharger is worth selling for turbo parts. And the style bar. And the rims. Later 1.8 suggests to me the engine may have been pulled and replaced for some reason, but maybe he's comparing it to the 1.6s and it's nothing.
