Default Vics, open = ??? closed = ???

**** off on searching, i couldn't find ****

i know that the vics opens with vac at XXXX rpm. is open short runner or longer runner?

bonus points if you can tell me this

i fucked up and put a vac line that always has vac so my vics was locked open and got my car tuned with it open at all times. with the right vac line going to the vics will it **** up my tune or cause problems? already planning to go drive it and log but want to make sure it's safe first.

Shouldn't **** up the tune, no. The switchover from closed to open happens at ~5k. You want it closed between 1500-2000rpm and 5000rpm, then open to redline. The only thing that may change is a slight leaning out between 2k and 5k, but we're talking 2/10ths of a point.

Neither. When open, a helmholtz resonator chamber is accessed. When closed it's just a regular longish runner manifold with some extra twists and turns for the air to take during it's travels towards the head.

open = "short" but it's actually a helmholtz as sjmarcy said.

I wanna say that its at 5200 RPM.

I remeber there was something weird about it,
Either the valve is CLOSED with vacuum, so with a normal solenoid you have to use a window switch set to be on from idle to 5200.
OR
The solenoid is weird and it closes when it gets voltage instead of opens, so you dont need a window switch, just a regular RPM switch...

damn my memory

It closes with voltage, default is open. You must power it to close it - I used MSPNP to trigger it from 2500 to 5200. There's a thread about it somewhere.

This.

There aren't different runners in the manifold, just a resonance chamber.

^ I think I can verify that it does actually idle better with the VICS closed.

I just hooked mine up this weekend. Been running with it open for a week. The idle wasn't really BAD, but the engine did shake a bit more than I really liked. With the VICS being controlled by my Link, it now idles more smoother.

It should idle fine now. Don't waste your time with VICS at all, especially when you have other things to do on that POS.

See you tonight,
xoxo
