you want to grip in front when you drift, not in the rear

Depends on the power and skill level of the driver.

My favorite tire to drift on is a RA-1, but you need alot of power to spin thoes.

I run 205's on the front 15x7's and 225's on the rear 15x8's with no rubbing.

i personally run 205/50/15 azenis on 15x6.5 front and 205/50/15 ziex on 15x7 rear for drifting... i, for some reason, prefer it like that. 205/50/15 azenis on 15x6.5 all around for track.

That's a decent combination, even for stock powered miatas, but once you run back to back laps with the ziex they don't hold heat well and tend to delaminate almost at full tread, at least the 512 do.

Just seen the earlier of 195's, so i think ill get either 205's or 215's, not sure how much power i will av yet, just finishing building the car with a p+p head, 550's, T28 off an s14, large FMIC and a mega squirt,
205's are only 35 quid a tyre = $75 so i think ill get them

BenR has answered everything here. It all depends on skill Set and power.
I wouldnt want a 195 on any boosted miata for any type of driving.

I run a 215/40 most of the time.
Once I have adjustable upper control arms they should be fine, right now I want more grip. I have too much neg camber.

You know as well as I do those wheels look like sunken battle ships on a 4x4 truck. theres a head shot. You can put that rubber on alot better looking wheel.
I will still spin the **** out of those tires too, in your car or mine..

Anyway, I, at some point actually want to runthat tire size for drifting in my car...

OK. I run 225/50 Toyo's on some 15 x 8 rims, with 0 offset.

That gives me plenty of tire, but I had to cut the arches to allow them to fit, you may get away with rolling & flaring.

Next tires I get will be 215's, and possibly a lower profile as well, which should give me a bit of extra clearance.

195's on an 8" wide rim are just plain daft, 205 minimum.

So if you're talking of drifting I'd say 205,215, or 225 if you can get them to fit.

More importantly, what brand of tyres are you getting? For pure track work the Toyo R888's should be good. otherwise most UK guys sem to run the Toyo T1-R or S, Goodyear Eagle F1's, Yokohama Parada's etc...

I'm interested in this as well:
I'm about to pick up a set of wheels in 16x8 et20. My car is very low. It's not about achieving the stretched look, I'm just trying to find what tires I can fit without rubbing (fenders rolled). I was thinking 205s to play it safe, but am sketched out by that photo posted earlier. Will 215s fit?
