I weighed mine when I had a softtop. 2510 with me sitting in it. I weighed about 175 at the time, this is what determined my goal of 250 hp. Roughly 1hp per 10 lbs.

Much older than mythbusters, it's just an old physics question. Guy with van full of birds is worried he'll break the bridge. Gets out and smacks the side of the van to make them fly around, reducing his weight by that of the birds. Q: does this work?

If that's 2300-2400 fully dressed, i'm not sure I have anything to worry about concerning my 2000lb goal. Is that with a roll bar?

Yeah guys that's with all the standard 10AE items--power everything, a/c, full interior, MSM brakes, roll bar, everything. I've done nothing to lighten the car.

Correct, though I always heard the version that it was truck entering a weigh station, and the driver knew he'd be fined at his full weight. Same thing.

Back to the regularly scheduled programming...nice to have another actual real weight. How much of the wheel-to-wheel weight discrepancy can be evened out by adjusting coilover height without dramatically changing the height of each corner?

For reference: Every NA 1.6 Miata I've raced has weighed in no more than 2050 lbs. with a full cage, no soft top, no accessories, hardtop, stripped interior and no further weight reduction.

dont be sad ben. I'm in the same boat. minus cruise control. the only thing I did to lighten the car was bigger brakes and a super light clutch/flywheel.

Hot diggity. I've done all that, my lack of a full cage is probably made up by the turbo, and I've done a lot of weight reduction past that. Who has scales I can borrow?!?

I'm reading Mark Donahue's "The Unfair Advantage" right now, and he mentions that they "corner-weighted" a car by just blocking up the other 3 wheels to the same height as the scale. So, it'd be a hassle, but you could check all four corners individually and then make adjustments.

Pretty interesting reading about their limited knowledge of race prep back in the late 50's and 60's. Obviously the big teams knew more, but the difference between knowledge from amateur racers then and now is astounding.

I'm not sad about it at all. If you want to have one car that does everything well, it will do nothing perfectly. I built a fast street car, not a race car. I'm happy with it.

I'm getting a bug about starting a new, lighter project, possibly with a much greater power to weight.
