Just get a spare open, weld up one of them, and swap them out before you go to the track. Diff swap is easy- and IMO would be well worth it for drag racing.

weld it then if nothing else get another open unit and swap it back.

my old mazdaspeed 2way would chirp like crazy making low-speed corners, I liked it.

Thanks Brain, if the welded diff sucks and I can't find a clutch type for cheap, I'll let you know. I'm thinking I'm gonna like this though, as I would overly enjoy knowing I have both tires to work with at all times.

Not a spool but i know my rx7 has some pretty tight lock up and it has made the car alot more tail happy in corners. Of course this is comming from a vicius lsd. Still tough i like to be able to accelerate in turns instead of just caost. A rx7 clutch pack etc is the real way to go about this i never rebuilt mine or measured the lockup for real but it takes a good bit to get it to slip, and it locks very quickly.

I got mine on the RX7 forums for 50 bucks including circlips and stubshafts. Have you tried RX7club?

No, I have not. Wow, that's cheap for a clutch type lsd. Was it in good shape? I'll have to check that site out.

Volvo 242GT Solid axle.

It had wide tires, depowered steering, and a welded differential. Any one would have been good as stock. Any two would have been manageable. All three was no fun. Sold the car shortly thereafter.

Well, I do have power steering. I don't thinkg I would want to swap diffs out just for the track. I go maybe 10 times a season, so that would get old. If the welded diff does suck, I'll look into getting an RX-7 diff.
