Question What's the going rate for a 99-00 head?

Google has failed me with a wide range of info. I found a guy with a 99 head and intake manifold for sell local to me with 77k miles on it. The engine had damage so I have to make sure the head is still intact but assuming it is...

What's the value of a 99-00 head complete head with valve cover.
Value of 99-00 intake manifold with throttle body and injectors.

I got the guy down to $300 from his asking price of $450 for the pair but am not in a rush so just wanted to check if that's about the going rate.

The prices are absurd.
I've seen as low as 250 and as high as 750, and the overall condition of both was very similar.

Some people think they're made of gold. I'll take a 6Z vvt head over the 4w any day of the week.

I would say 250-400 is a decent price for the 4w. Just my .02

Ya, that's the price ranges I've seen too.

I found a vvt head in florida with intake manifold valve cover, header, ecu (the whole shabang) for $300 too. But shipping would kill it.

I'm leaning to the non-VVT for simplicity sake. My DIYPNP can't run the vvt. I could build something to run it of my LabView datalogger/controller but that's probably a hassle to tune using that method but would be a fun project.

Also interested in this. Looking for a spare 4W head to play with.

Good luck finding them at a good price from anyone who keeps up with Spec Miata rule changes. I contacted a shop about purchasing a stock/virgin VVT head to replace mine with warn cams. The owner mentioned that they are "holding on to" any virgin heads for their Spec Miatas because they can't run their machined heads legally in the future. I suspect that places like Treasure Coast, Planet Miata, Parts Group, etc. are going to demand a premium on good stock heads. Especially given a potential lack of quality from the new heads from Mazda. From what little I've seen of them, the castings are pretty rough. I know I'll be asking a little more for stock motors from cars I part out.

The upside is that if you can find a Spec Miata builder with an machined heads in their inventory, you can potentially pick them up for a good deal. From the builder I mentioned above I got a formerly legal head for 60% of what it would have cost 6 months ago.

Sav bought a 99 head I picked up for $350, he even used his ludicrous UPS account to cover shipping. It's for a core, I'm guessing for a TSE built motor eventually.

The 4W heads are becoming somewhat scarce. Kind of like the old 462 casing small block chevy heads back in the day.

I just realized how scarce they were getting so I picked up a couple as spares over the last two months. Got one for $300 and the other for $275.

I have a feeling that over the next couple years they will become somewhat non existent. Many of the wholesale head builders are totally out of stock on them and will not sell one without a core.

I say all that to say.....if you aren't going to get it for $300.....give me the guy's paypal and I'll get it from him today.

Some people don't want the complexity. I won't buy them because they're ugly, I guess it's the ricer in me..,

I've picked a few up for $250 recently. I think that's on the "good price" side of things, though. They're definitely getting harder to find around these parts.

I have an illegal head coming from Eastreet/Jim Drago. He sold them for $750 or $500 with a core. Guess he had them on the shelf and they're not useful to him anymore. I'm kind of excited about it. Hoping to dyno the car as it is, then with his head; he claim 8-10hp on a stock motor.

I bought his last VVT head last week (picking it up Saturday) for the same reason.

I picked up the 99-00 head with intake manifold for $300. It has valve cover, injectors/fuel rail, harness, throttle body but is missing some small stuff like the VICS actuator. Are most of you guys listing the $250-$350 prices just a head with cams and valvetrain, or including valve cover, intake manifold, or other goodies?

It looks like the VICS intake manifold are going for $150 or so which sold me on buying the package from that local seller.

The guy with the VVT head still has it for sell if anyone is interested. He's located in Florida.

$400 - VVT head with intake manifold, valve cover, exhaust header, ECU.

PM me for his contact info.

I talked to Drago and he said $1000 for a non-compliant head or $500 with core exchange. Seems like a good deal, but not $750 good like robert mentioned.
