2700 for that car is a freaking steal. Buy. Now.

If it was a factory 6-speed, I believe it should be a 3.9 torsen.

FowlerMotorsports 02-09-2013 11:11 AM

I can either buy this, or spend the money to upgrade my car. 6 speed, fastback, fender flares, 949 damper, etc.. I may pickup a 6 speed today

What rear end comes in this car? It has the 6 speed already and a miataroadster short shift. But it has race lands coilovers, bleh! That definitely will be changed out.

The rear should be a 3.9 torsen IIRC.

Pics don't do justice. Sharp looking when looking at a distance but there is quite a bit of damage. Top is fine just the hood and trunk.

Should I wait a few weeks and grab it?

I think that would work out well for you for the money you mentioned.

LOL at what some people do to their suspensions.

FowlerMotorsports 02-09-2013 07:33 PM

I mean my car is low, but not that low.

Debating on pulling all my turbo stuff and selling my car cheap to fund more goodies for this car, what do you guys think?

DaveC 02-10-2013 10:12 AM

Which suggests that the salvage title might be due to something else.

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 10:25 AM

I think it's the front end that caused it to be a salvaged.

mr_hyde 02-10-2013 10:25 AM

Hail can total a car very quickly. If the PDR can't get everything perfect, then the insurance needs to account for replacing the hood, trunk and fenders as well as some fill on the quarters plus a full paint job on the entire car to blend everything. That will total a 10+ year old miata pretty quick.

The only reason to stay away from a salvage car is because of resale value. If you are going to just turn it into a track rat and the salvage wasn't because of a significant impact where the frame was pulled too much, go for it. But...

I will stick by my previous comment about an SE paint job on a track car. If we trade a little paint, I'm whacking my red '90 with a hammer and reaching for the rattle can of red. You are trying to find a shop to mix a batch of mica paint for less than a set of tires. If the crunch is more significant, there are 3 red NAs on my local Craigslist being parted out right now. I've never seen a 2000 SE with useful body panels be parted out locally.

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 10:31 AM

It won't be a track car. It will be my daily just turbod after I pull mine off and sell the car.

mr_hyde 02-10-2013 11:42 AM

Ah - sorry for the ASSumption. :loser:

If you don't care about resale value and having the annoying questions and lowball offers when you do go to sell, go for it.

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 11:59 AM

Haha well in your defense I said because racecar.

It's much cleaner than my car and I knew the previous owner and knew it was taken care of. My built 99 engine would be the only thing it's missing! Think I'm going to start pulling some turbo parts and sell my Na. Sad day

mr_hyde 02-10-2013 12:23 PM

Why don't you swap motors - put your built one in the '00 and that one in the NA to sell?

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 12:37 PM

The Na already has a 1.8 and torsen from a 96. My built 99 is in the shop still waiting to go together. So basically I'll just pull my turbo stuff off the Na and sell it. Then my built motor will go into the 00

turbofan 02-10-2013 02:13 PM

This definitely seems like the right way to go to me. Do you prefer the NB? If so, and you can confirm that this car is not jacked up or has never been really jacked up, then by all means, go for it.

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 03:37 PM

I am starting to like the NB better than the NA's now.

I am in the process of disassembling my car to get all my turbo goodies off, questions is, how much is my NA worth?

1993 with 1.8 engine and torsen w/ 4.10 gears.
1.8 built with forged rods, roughly 5k miles on the engine
Lightweight flywheel, ACT clutch
BC Racing coilovers, stock daisies with brand new rubber

Interior is basically stock, MazdaSpeed Miata seats, hardtop, pretty plain car

hornetball 02-10-2013 03:42 PM

I suspect you might get more if you part it. The Torsen is worth good money and so is the new, built engine. Just something to think about.

I'm guessing you no longer have the original drivetrain?

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 04:12 PM

It had this drivetrain when I bought it. I figured I could get more if I parted but don't want to hassle with that right now.

mr_hyde 02-10-2013 10:33 PM

At least sell the HT separately.

FowlerMotorsports 02-10-2013 11:29 PM

I am making my part out list right now. So much crap to list lol I will be playing the waiting game, then taking the shell to the crusher most likely
