Default WTF 95 Wiring Harness

Why the hell didn't they use a stand alone harness for engine management like in an Escort GT. Do I really have to pull the WHOLE harness out of the Miata just to make my engine run in my Escort(convert to RWD with Miata engine/tranny)

Yes the NA miata has a single harness for the whole car. It is a bitch, and stupid for Mazda to do it like that. The harness also changes many times through out the years.

This sucks...I was taking it out of my friends car because he's putting in a 302 but thought there was just a direct engine ECU wiring harness. Are you saying that he needs to keep the ECU and harness to run everything else in the car after the engine swap baring the engine control wires?

Yes that is what we are saying. You can pull all the ECU wires, but it will be a royal PITA. Harness would most likely need to fully come out to do it properly.

I have 85% of it out now...just needed to finish the wires thru the drives side firewall but it started raining and couldn't finish.

NBs have a separate engine harness.

Didn't some Escorts use the same engine and ECU as the Miata? DIYPNP N76 kit for Miatas is the same as 91-95 Escort. If that's the case and considering you're going to have to do a shitload of work either way, wouldn't it just be easier to cut and splice the connectors that are too long/short from one harness to the other?

That's assuming you're running an aftermarket ECU. If you're trying to use the factory Mazda ECU, you would have to compare the pinouts and even then repinning might still be easier.

I'm using a 97 ECU and cut harness I had. I didn't want to take out the 95 harness if my friend still needs it to run his car with V8 swap. I have located all the pinouts for the 97 ECU but getting the pinouts for the EGT is not as easy. Have to use Mazda 323/Protege diagrams which the colors and pinout locations change...real PITA. Plus the 97 ECU has pinouts for things not on my engine since it's a 94' IE...EGR,front CPS,etc...
