ChutchNet group buy....

I thank Sam for trying to hook us up with a clutch deal through Carolina Clutch, to bad it went south. I was uneasy knowing that after the deal was almost set up the base prices we supposed to get 10% off of went up :nono::confused: That left a bad taste in my mouth so I researched other manufacturers and came up with ClutchNet.

Still needing a clutch for my car I called Clutch and spoke to Igor, great guy. Really wanted to get me the right clutch combo for my car. I ended up having him build me a costume setup. I cant wait to get it. While I was on the phone with him I discussed a group buy for TurboMiata. He is all about it! I'm going to get back to him tonight and see what I can work out for us.

I'll let you know....

:)

Thanks for the heads up...keep us posted!

Zabac 01-14-2008 05:04 PM

johndoe 01-14-2008 05:58 PM

I'll be 100% in on this one.

kevin02 01-14-2008 06:01 PM

I'm prolly in too

Braineack 01-14-2008 06:10 PM

hell id be in given the price, otherwise just a disc.

teknikscian 01-14-2008 06:11 PM

im in! keep us posted..

Arkmage 01-14-2008 07:45 PM

I'm in... was planning on buying one from them this month anyways.

samnavy 01-14-2008 09:19 PM

I'm a little ashamed to say I might be in too. Since I'm re-using the Spec for the time being, I won't be needing a new clutch until springtime... but might be pursuaded to go in early for the right deal.

Something with mild pedal effort (not a puck) to hold 250ftlbs is the ticket.

I'll have what he's having

Kelly 01-14-2008 11:39 PM

Clutchnet is my favorite clutch company by far. We all run them in our boosted Vr6's. I ran one in my Miata as well. I had the red pressure plate and pedal effort was still like stock. I would recommend the Carbon/Carbon disc. Super streetable and will still hold the power.

orion4096 01-15-2008 12:06 AM

What's the url? I tried going to www.clutchnet.com and all I get is an "under construction" page. Although, I can tell I've been to the site before because there are other links to the same site (which are broken right now) in my browser history.

In any case, I'm looking to see if they have something organic/full sprung disc with whatever PP it takes to hold 200+ ft/lbs.

IcantDo55 01-15-2008 12:48 AM

Yes there website is down right now.

I'll speak to them Tue and let you all know what the deal is.

supersuk 01-15-2008 03:07 AM

OOO, I'm definately in. I think i'd like the red x2 pressure plate with a disc taht would be capable of holding 250+ whp but no more than 300. Don't want a puck disc also.

Kelly 01-15-2008 03:34 AM

The Carbon or Kevlar sprung hub discs are what you want.

I have the kevlar sprung hub and 2X PP in my Gti. Should hold 425 whp and 400 wtq easily while being cake to drive in stop and go.

Sharky 01-15-2008 04:00 AM

Count me in on the GB for the clutch set too. I am not sure which one I will need for a 200+ hp JRSC 1.6l car and Torsen II rear. I already broke the 1.6 LSD. So I figure the clutch will probably be the next to go.

IcantDo55 01-15-2008 08:37 PM

I think you guys will like the deals we will be getting! I will have it posted Wednesday! Get your CC ready!

dc2696 01-15-2008 08:54 PM

This sounds more like it

I'd really like to just get a disc from them. unless the deal is that good :)

1967cutlass 01-15-2008 09:03 PM

What do you guys think they'd charge for a pressure plate? I can get a deal on an ACT street disc...

Braineack 01-15-2008 09:09 PM

an ACT street disc is an oem exedy disc....

Really? I know someone running 275whp on one of them, although he said it's starting to slip after numerous 12 and 13 second passes

TonyV 01-15-2008 11:23 PM

I'm in the market so great timing...(subscribed)

zarish 01-15-2008 11:53 PM

Me too, I am also in the market looking for some clutch, flywheel set, etc. Will wait to find out what the deal is all about.

buy it, an be sorely disappointed when you open it up and see exedy stamped all over it and it looks exactly like your stock disc. It's all about the clamping forces of the PP.

I'm looking for a new disc solely because I'm using a dual friction carbon fiber disc that slips when it's cold.

1967cutlass 01-16-2008 03:34 AM

Hm will any of this be cheaper than the ebay f1 clutch? lol

Braineack 01-16-2008 09:13 AM

the F1 ebay clutch is a Clutchnet OEM replacement PP with their 6-puck disc.

Michael,
Here's what I can offer for group buys:

For example:
ACT XT pressure plate would be our Red 3X
HD pressure plate is Clutchnet Red 2X.

MM or SS disc would be Clutchnet smooth lock disc(organic sprung hub)
G4 is Clutchnet 4 button e-z lock disc(sprung hub)
G6 is Clutchnet 6 button e-z lock disc
R4 is Clutchnet 4 button solid hub disc
R6 is Clutchnet 6 button solid hub disc

Here we go:
Clutchnet 3X pr.plate & smooth lock disc $345.00 - 295ft/lb
Clutchnet 3X pr.plate & 6 puck solid disc $355.00 - 395ft/lb
Clutchnet 3X pr.plate & 4 puck solid disc $345.00 - 425ft/lb
Clutchnet 3X pr.plate & 6 puck sprung disc $385.00 - 395ft/lb (more use for street)
Clutchnet 3X pr.plate & 4 puck sprung disc $375.00 - 405ft/lb

All others with Clutchnet 2X pressure plate I can do flat price of $325.00 for 1.6L Miata.

$355.00 for 1.8L Miata

Any disc goes with it, except if they require fiber-carbon or Kevlar discs.
That would be $50.00 extra

FREE SHIPPING for all above!

Please PM me with the model you got so I can track our progress.
How is that?

You must tell them IcantDo55 from MiataTurbo.net sent you, to get these prices.

congrats Mike, thanks for taking care of this for all of us

one thing, everyone needs to make sure they specify that they want a bonded disk for higher durabilty, this is something igor and i have talked about and he highly recommends it.
do you know if he is including TObearings with this, i think we can get that out of him as well

IcantDo55 01-16-2008 11:37 AM

Checking on TOB...

johndoe 01-16-2008 11:48 AM

so we can assume the 2x and smoothlock would hold the same torque as an HD and a 3x with smooth lock would hold the same torque as an XT? Same pedal effort, just with engagement not on the floor?

Zabac 01-16-2008 12:01 PM

i would encourage everyone to read this thread for more info on whats available from clutchnet since it has already been talked about...

I don't really have $400 to blow right now. But I might call them up and ask them for a pressure plate (once my intoxication has worn off)

IcantDo55 01-16-2008 08:08 PM

Mine is on the way......

How long is the deal gonna last?

Everyone should post what they got.

Arkmage 01-16-2008 11:44 PM

I'm going with the 3X red and smooth lock. I'll order in the next few days.

Arkmage 01-17-2008 05:35 PM

Per Igor's suggestion I just ordered the 2X red and smooth lock. The numbers posted earlier are for 1.6L clutches. The 2X with smooth lock is good to about 300 ft*lbs, which is more than enough... For now.

dc2696 01-17-2008 05:49 PM

Toll free number??

2x is for for 300ft/lbs!?

So whats the 3x rated for then, I'm liking the sounds of these prices and wha they're holding.

johndoe 01-17-2008 06:33 PM

I ended up getting the 2x and the organic disc with 3 HD/ 3 Regular springs as mentioned in the other clutchnet thread. He originally suggested Kevlar but I declined.

miataspeed1point6 01-17-2008 07:52 PM

Is it still worth upgrading from the 1.6 setup to the 1.8? I need a new clutch and I would rather just buy a replacement than have to search for a flywheel too.

TonyV 01-17-2008 07:58 PM

+1, just got off the phone w/ him...He told me that should hold close to
270ftlb tq, you get the same answer?

samnavy 01-17-2008 08:44 PM

I think I have the same desires as everyone else. I want minimum pedal effort with maximum modulatibility and the least amount of strain on the driveline.

If the 2x and an organic disc w/upgraded springs will hold 270ftlbs (240wtq), that's about that's about 30wtq more than I'll be making. I just don't like that close a margin of error.

I really want something rated in the 270wtq range... so around 300ftlbs. It looks like I'm gonna have so sacrifice some pedal effort and get the 3xPP and organic disc. I'll keep the feel and driveline longevity.

On the other hand, what about a 2xPP and 6puck-sprung? Lower effort and feel at the expense of quick engagement? I bet that would still hold 300ftlbs.

Anybody else in my same boat?

Arkmage 01-17-2008 09:37 PM

he tell you 270 for 1.6 size? Cause I was told 300 for the 1.8 setup without the upgraded springs... which makes me curious.

TonyV 01-17-2008 10:42 PM

Hey guys, sorry shouldve been more clear...

He told me 270tq at the wheels...thats for a 1.8

Sam, Im in exactly the same boat, im thinking 220-230wtq will be max that ill hit...prob more likely 200ish, so 270 at the wheels was a nice cushion for me..

orion4096 01-17-2008 10:46 PM

I'll be calling tomorrow and will probably get the red 2x with organic, sprung disc for my 1.8. If it can hold 270 at the wheels that will keep me happy for a few months.

TonyV 01-17-2008 10:54 PM

I was told 300wtq, possibly more with the organic bonded disc 3hd/3reg spring and 2x pressure plate.

I was joking. :) Although, my other car has 550 rwtq so the Miata will need some work to catch up.

I placed an order this morning for the same red2x/organic sprung disc that other people have bought.

Yup bonded, not ss backing...

That's my problem... it's for a 1.8. I need 270wtq on a 1.6. My current flywheel still has all the machine marks on it, so in a few months at low boost, I still won't need it machined. The other option is to get a used 1.8 flywheel... really cheap and plentiful... have it machined for $30 and do what you're doing. But money is money.

I'm really on the fence here between a 3xPP+Organic, and a 2xPP+6sprung. The puck clutch is a touch choice on a 150k mile tranny and stock open 6"dif. I really need to drive a pucked clutch and see what one feels like.

TonyV 01-19-2008 12:46 AM

I hear ya man...anyway, just to clarify again for a 1.8L organic sprung hub disk, with 3High perf springs/6Reg springs, bonded clutch and a 2X Pressure Plate = 300+ft lb tq, 270+wheel ftlb tq (maybe more depending on abuse) is what I was told...Not saying if its the right answer, just saying...

Anyrate if its either of the 2, im happy. Dont think Im gonna be breaking 220wtq w/ a gt2560 and be streetable at least.

amagalla 01-19-2008 01:43 AM

anyone know how long this group buy is going to last? I'm looking at an organic (3High perf springs/3Reg springs....maybe 6Reg springs) with a Red 2X on a 1.8. Am I still looking at $355 for a bonded version? Any one know?

Tony

TonyV 01-19-2008 02:16 AM

yea, read above i (and a few others) ordered yesterday....$355 shipped ground, includes to bearing, and plastic allignment tool

Dunno for how long tho

For what it's worth, I spoke to Igor and specifically asked him if clutchnet sells their stuff to any ebay vendors and he told me that they sell some clutch disks but they do not sell pressure plates to any ebay vendors.

I've got an m62 setup and I ordered the yellow pressure plate with an organic disk from clutchnet for $275, it's sitting on my bench right now and looks really high quality. I like how the springs in the hub of the disk are nicely shrouded, and the pressure plate looks stout. They shipped it out quick and they know a lot about miatas.
