That sucks... I doubt we'll track down two more people to get in on the built kit, but maybe...

Too bad they wouldn't offer a special "code" to those of us who were interested and do the transactions individually.

adbradley 02-13-2007 04:20 PM

well like i said, if you can get a couple more people then you guys are in business, and i will put in the order for you, but personally, im going to order a kit seperatly

miatamania 02-13-2007 04:39 PM

so whats the deal now?? you were going to get it modded...now your not? what 'kit'

and paypal is a bitch so we are getting raped...so no group buy?

cjernigan 02-13-2007 04:46 PM

When he says kit he means the $179 unassembled kit. He want to build his own as do I. He just talked to autotune and got them to offer the discount on assembled modded boards as well.

adbradley 02-13-2007 04:46 PM

woah calm down killer... the deal is, get 2 more ppl and i will do the group buy as planned... i was debating weather to get the fully built unit, or the kit, and decided on the kit because its cheeper. The kit is the MS unbuilt, i will just do the mods myself.

If you get 2 more people, and dont want to pay the pay-pal fee, feel free to send me a money order.

miatamania 02-13-2007 05:08 PM

can I just order it or do we still have to do the group buy?

adbradley 02-13-2007 05:13 PM

u can just order it, but it will be like 20 or 30 more bucks...

just when u order tell them you want the built unit modded for the miata.

miatamania 02-13-2007 05:18 PM

I might just pick up the assembled unit and mod it myself then.

adbradley 02-13-2007 05:23 PM

get balzy, build the entire thing yourself

its not a lot

Arkmage 02-13-2007 05:31 PM

yeah, and a lot of little shit I do not want to deal with....as it sits, I'll be a CSP car for the season and I might as well get some EMS going on.

GTS Miata 02-13-2007 07:25 PM

I've thought about building it myself too, but I figured the extra money would be worth the "reliability" factor of having "a pro" build it.

at least assembled...the mods themselves aren't hard I've heard, and they will include the things we need for free...I think.

Savington 02-13-2007 10:05 PM

That sucks. I was looking forward to actually getting a piece of the turbo setup together. I'll order it later on. $15 isn't enough to make it worthwhile.

adbradley 02-13-2007 10:06 PM

once again, sorry guys, i should have figured this part out a while back

miatamania 02-13-2007 10:38 PM

heh, to bad they wouldn't let us pay separate and everything.

shuiend 02-13-2007 10:45 PM

So is this group buy dead? I am still in for a completely built MegaSquirt.

cjernigan 02-13-2007 11:15 PM

No it's still going strong. Some of the people decided to buy the DIY kits on their own is all. The fully assembled kits are still a good deal.

Dhaark 02-13-2007 11:20 PM

just got mine ordered straight from diyautotune:
1 x MegaSquirt-I Programmable EFI System PCB3.0 - UnAssembled Kit (MS130-K)
1 x Lead Bending Tool (T-LeadBend)
1 x PCBv3 and v2.2 -- Pullup Resistors 'ModKit' (mk-pullup)
1 x PCBv3 -- PWM IAC Valve Control (TIP120) 'Mod-Kit' (mk-PWMIAC)
this was $203

I'll be buying the harness later as well as the sensors.

cjernigan 02-13-2007 11:23 PM

No Stim to test your build? They would have included the pullup resistors for free i think. The PWM mod is the one they charge for if i'm not mistaken.
I'll be ordering the same things though, +Stim & +USB adapter for the board.
I don't have any computers with DB9, plenty with USB though. My total was an even $300.

miatamania 02-13-2007 11:41 PM

the PWM mod is the idle mod correct?

my total w/o cables (its a standard serial cable...I've got those) is looking around $370 shipped or so for the assembled and sensors...no harness though.

cjernigan 02-13-2007 11:51 PM

Yes it is the idle TIP mod.

So, you've ordered it on your own?

no, not yet, I just totaled everything up. I might wait a few weeks till I get my new rear end actually in the car and running for before I go and try to max the credit card out...:)

I have the stim from a friend so there is no point of buying one :)
I'm getting the harness, sensors and the usb mod soon - in around 2 weeks

shuiend 02-15-2007 12:57 PM

So any new updates on this? I am definately in for sure now.

GTS Miata 02-15-2007 01:33 PM

If we could get 5 people to buy the assembled unit this will still be on. I guess we can do a list and see who responds...

1. GTS miata
2. Shuiend
3.
4.
5.

miatamania 02-15-2007 01:34 PM

I can't at the moment, I just picked up a manifold and downpipe instead...if we could get around the paypal fees it would be a great deal.

But I may just go ahead and wait, and do the mods an everything myself sometime late spring/early summer.

GTS Miata 02-15-2007 01:36 PM

I work about 20-25 minutes away from DIY... perhaps they would let me drop off checks from everyone or something?

I would prefer not to pay paypal fees if possible...

miatamania 02-15-2007 01:40 PM

hmm
just make out checks/money order to DIY and have you deliver them? Drop them an email and see if they will let you do it. :)

Arkmage 02-15-2007 02:07 PM

paypal fees arn't an issue if you have a "personal" account. since I registered mine as a business account intending to use it for my LLC (which never happened) I get charged... my buddies that just use it for ebay don't. One person could accept all the paypals then write a check to DIY for the whole deal.

GTS Miata 02-15-2007 02:29 PM

I could be wrong, but I think there has been a paypal deduction every time I get money from someone via paypal.

miatanutz 02-15-2007 02:40 PM

You are correct.

shuiend 02-15-2007 02:58 PM

We need to get this going soon. I am starting to think my soldering skills are up to task in making it. So if we dont get it going soon I might just attempt to build it.

GTS Miata 02-15-2007 03:06 PM

I agree... I'd like to see this move forward.

My wife has agreed to buy this as a birthday gift, but if it takes too long, she'll probably go and spend the money on clothes for me. :td:

I'd much rather have the MS than new clothes!!!

shuiend 02-15-2007 03:56 PM

Yah this is my Birthday gift from my parents. I didnt even try to explain to them what exactly it does.

Arkmage 02-15-2007 05:31 PM

Hmm... guess they changed it. it used to be free for non commercial folks.

adbradley 02-15-2007 05:39 PM

i think its free if u are doing what they call an instant transfer... thats funds that are in your PP account already and not comming from a bank or credit card. And you have to have the personal membership, not the premiear one.... i think everyone has the premier one i do, and didnt even know it

P90Puma 02-15-2007 09:55 PM

It is free, up to the point you recieve 1!!!! visa payment and you have to upgrade your account. Then you are stuck paying the fee's no matter what.

shuiend 02-15-2007 11:05 PM

So besides GTS Miata and myself who else is in on this group buy? Adbradly you still in? If we dont get this going soon I might just build it myself.

GTS Miata 02-16-2007 08:09 AM

I'm getting the impression that the interest has died out somewhat. Today was the deadline that adbradley set, so I guess we'll stick with it and see what happens.

adbradley 02-16-2007 10:36 AM

deadline is out... you guys can take as long as you want, the group buy is now for assembled and modded kits only, 367 bucks, saving like 30 bucks.. as soon as you guys get 5 ppl to do it, i will take care of the rest...

I just ordered an unassembled kit, im going to build myself... Actualy i baught the last 2 kits they had, hope they have more comming.

shuiend 02-16-2007 12:18 PM

If it is out then I am odering my kits unassembled kit today. Adbradly could you post a list of everything you bought? I need to make sure I dont forget something.

Arkmage 02-16-2007 12:28 PM

check the MS forum, this has been covered by a half dozen folks... including myself.

adbradley 02-16-2007 12:37 PM

i got the kit

the idle air mod

the pull up resistors

the stimulator

the 2 foot bundle of labled wire

and the open element iat sensor with pigys

and i also got the inturnal usb adapter cus my laptop doesnt have the serial port

think thats it

just make sure when u pay that u make a note that its for a miata, and they will make sure u get what u need

shuiend 02-16-2007 02:07 PM

Thanks alot adbradley, I would have forgotten to get the pull up resistors without your list. Everything else I knew I needed. Now just to place my order and wait. I also wet out today and bought all the soldering supplies I should need for the build.

GTS Miata 02-16-2007 04:50 PM

looks like this group buy is Dead.

Now do I build my own or buy it assembled.

shuiend 02-16-2007 05:24 PM

BUILD IT. We can all help each other when we get stuck. I checked with DIY and they do have more unassembled kits in stock now.

adbradley 02-16-2007 05:42 PM

i will be building it as well as chad... so we can all help each other.. i plan on uploading some pics along the way

shuiend 02-16-2007 06:03 PM

I just ordered mine, 305$ shipped. I will be taking alot of pictures and writing down everythign I do. Hopefully we can get a good write up going on everything install related.

adbradley 02-16-2007 06:06 PM

u do the super fast shipping?

shuiend 02-16-2007 09:05 PM

Nope just normal shipping. It should be shipped monday and at 3 days get here exactly on my birthday. I am sycked to get it.

I'm thinking about it, just not 100% confident in my soldering ability. Doing car stereo installs is totally different than circuit boards.

Well I havent sodered in years and I am going for it. I read the manual last night for the assembly and it does not seem that bad. I am planning on just going slowly and taking my time. Me and you should have very very similar setup since we are both doing 1.8 engines without obd2.

miatamania 02-17-2007 11:52 AM

heh, when I do mine, I'm just going to mod it...b/c I really don't have the time or then wish to build the whole thing. :)
