I mean, I'm not above retreating, but I'm slow, so I know that I'd get caught if the dude was even close to being in shape.

Shoot until shooting no longer is useful in eliminating the threat, and then reassess and go from there.

 

I find it highly unlikely that I will be attacked by a knife-wielding nut from 1, 21 or 121 feet away so I probably won't lose any sleep over it.

 

I'm with Stein on this one... Everyone around my neck of the woods is a pansy. If you just showed them that you had a gun they would turn and run the other way.

 

Depends on the attacker, and the person being attacked. I know I would be faster than 95% of attackers, even in my boots I could still outrun most people. I would only use running as a means to buy time to prepare my counter attack.

I also don't fear for my life from being attacked with a knife. I work in one of the worst parts of downtown Birmingham, which has one of the highest violent crime rates/ homicide rate per capita in the US, and even then, I've never felt threatened in the several years I have worked there.
