240SX tune-up
My 240SX hit 150,000 miles this past week and with the Miata nearly out of the garage, I figured I would start looking at giving the engine an overhaul. I know I want to change the head gasket, valve cover gasket, exhaust/intake gasket, etc... The thing is, should I take the motor out of the car to work on it or not? The motor appears to be in good condition, but it seems that the oil pick-up tube gets clogged or something because the valves tick like there isn't a drop of oil in the head on occasion. So I am planning on pulling the pan. If I am going through all this, think it would be worth the trouble to just pull the motor and put in a new clutch and lightened flywheel? Sorry about the indecisiveness, but I know that a lot of people here have done this more than I have.

lol
its a SOHC, I suppose I will just pull it then. Who knows how much work it really needs. Do you guys recommend pulling all of the guts out of the motor for a detailed inspection, or just look over the parts and make sure they don't look bad? I don't want this to be a 1 month project because who knows how long it is going to be before I blow up the miata's motor

Replace the timing chain guides with metal ones while you are at it, the plastic ones like to break and if they do you can say goodbye to you valves.

and smaller... If I wanted to make this car go fast right now, I would turbo the KA. Who likes torque? I like torque
mx5roadster I had heard of having to do this with the VH45 motors, it never crossed my mind to check the KA for this as well, will do. Pat I'll need to find a way of testing the oil pressure, but the leak-down I will and can do before removal
