Although there were a few on the GSR forum that would NOT admit to it's ugliness for whatever reason.

That was pretty homo erotic with the chest muscle camera zooming. Made me feel like being at my favorite support group:

What is the 8/24? I assume it has nothing to do with the GM nomenclature like the 6-71

It's the other 30k in non-salary compensation in the form of:
housing
childcare
healthcare
food
clothing
potential bonus

Seriously, look at goarmy.com
Military Compensation: Army Benefits and Pay | goarmy.com

They estimate it's around $99k in annual compensation but that math doesn't make sense.

From that link:
...the average active duty service member receives an Army benefits and pay compensation package worth $99,000. Noncash compensation represents almost 60 percent of this package. Noncash compensation includes health care, retirement pay, child care and free or subsidized food, housing and education.
60% of $99k is $59.4k, leaving $39.6k cash.

If the average servicemember with a few years in earns somewhere in the low $30s, and you throw in a few extra bucks for allowances, bonuses, special duty, then the math pretty much lines up.
